Yard Jockey operates gasoline or diesel powered tractor trailer combination bringing trailers to loading docks to be unloaded. Backs trailer to loading docks, performs safety checks to secure trailer, opens bay doors, and assists dock workers in loading/unloading trailer. Being a Yard Jockey maintains radio or telephone contact with dispatcher to receive delivery or pick up instructions or to receive notice of changes in scheduled delivery or pick up. Typically requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Yard Jockey requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Yard Jockey works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Yard Jockey typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. We are searching for a highly communicative Yard Dog Yard Hostler to be responsive to the Plant Manager regarding the movement of trailers to facilitate the needs of the warehouse in sorting and processing material for shipment or storage. You will be responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of on-hand inventory and positioning.You must be adherent to prevailing safety codes, have good eyesight, be physically fit, and communicate effectively. Ultimately, a Yard Dog Driver should be able to perform under pressure, have good driving skills, and be responsible.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible to maintain a neat and orderly storage lot oriented toward maximizing efficiency in servicing the plant needs.
- Operate Yard Truck in a safe manner during numerous roll-on/roll-off procedures daily involving loaded and empty trailers.
- Drive and operate vehicle under 15 mph in and around the plant and storage lot/dock area.
- Be cognizant of the reality that the operation is a low mileage severe duty function requiring, particular, attention to preventive maintenance checks and services as well as actual scheduled vehicle maintenance.
- Must be aware that operations occur on asphalt, concrete and gravel surfaces in a hostile environment often contaminated with material subject to embedding in tires.
- Responsible for accounting for records involving trailer numbers, gross weights, and net weights on the scale log sheet to include source and type of material.
- Must function and interact on a daily basis with plant personnel and comply with plant safety requirements.
- Communicate using cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch, operations, and plant personnel.
- Security of valuable commodities and the storage area itself are a major area of concern for the Yard Hostler, occasionally requiring guidance from supervisory personnel regarding disposition.

REQUIREMENTS:- High school diploma.
- Completion of a Yard Dog apprenticeship is preferred.
- Experience staging and backing trailers.
- Class A commercial driver's license preferred, but not required.
- Ability to perform rudimentary vehicle maintenance.
- Top-notch coordination techniques.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- A safety-conscious and thorough disposition.
- Physically fit.
