Yard Jockey operates gasoline or diesel powered tractor trailer combination bringing trailers to loading docks to be unloaded. Backs trailer to loading docks, performs safety checks to secure trailer, opens bay doors, and assists dock workers in loading/unloading trailer. Being a Yard Jockey maintains radio or telephone contact with dispatcher to receive delivery or pick up instructions or to receive notice of changes in scheduled delivery or pick up. Typically requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Yard Jockey requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Yard Jockey works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Yard Jockey typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. Job Overview
This 2nd shift position requires a CDL-A and has hours of 6 : 00 PM - 12 : 00 AM Tuesday through Friday and 10 : 00 AM - 4 : 00 PM on Saturday.
The Switcher II-CDL is responsible for the transport of full and empty trailers between the docks and the designated drop parking locations in the "Trailer Yard" to support the inbound unloading and the outbound loading warehouse operations in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner.
This position will perform inspections of the trailers for any discovered issues ofmechanical maintenance needs before moving, tagging out any trailers requiring attention, and communicating any discovered issues to warehouse management and, or fleet maintenance.
This position may also occasionally be required to operate a forklift and, or other PIT equipment within the warehouse.
