Yard Jockey operates gasoline or diesel powered tractor trailer combination bringing trailers to loading docks to be unloaded. Backs trailer to loading docks, performs safety checks to secure trailer, opens bay doors, and assists dock workers in loading/unloading trailer. Being a Yard Jockey maintains radio or telephone contact with dispatcher to receive delivery or pick up instructions or to receive notice of changes in scheduled delivery or pick up. Typically requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Yard Jockey requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Yard Jockey works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Yard Jockey typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. Responsibilities :
- Assist techs as needed and support them on assigned jobs.
- Wash all types of trailers as needed, using power washer and brushes.
- Perform tasks in an efficient, timely, accurate, professional, and safe manner in accordance with all Company polices, DOT, OSHA and other governmental standards and regulations.
- Unload material as needed in a safe and timely manner.
- Utilize forklift in a safe manner to stack containers as well as decking and undecking of flatbed trailers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements :
- Must have a strong knowledge regarding the safe handling and operation of trailers, tractors, containers, field offices, power jacks, lift gates, power tools, trailer parts and supplies.
- Must be able to climb ladders and lift up to 50lbs.
- A current driver’s license
- Must present a professional, highly motivated, positive, results oriented, problem-solving attitude.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Must be able to work independently in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Must adhere to all Company policies including safety policies.
- Must pass a standard pre-employment drug test and physical.
- Must be able to work overtime as needed.
