Wound Care Services Director directs the programs and staff of the wound care services department. Develops and implements wound care services in accordance with the policies of the hospital and the directives of the medical staff. Being a Wound Care Services Director monitors patient progress and treatment plans. Responsible for the education of clinical staff. Additionally, Wound Care Services Director requires a MD degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires license to practice medicine. The Wound Care Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Wound Care Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Uses general nursing knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and health assessment to assist in the intervention of wound, ostomy and continence care problems. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education/Licensure/Certification: Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. National Certification in wound care preferred, i.e. (WCC) Wound Care Certification, (WTA) Wound Treatment Associate or equivalent. Knowledge: Minimum of 3 years of recent acute care clinical experience as a Registered Nurse required. Prior experience in wound, ostomy and continence care preferred. Skills: Excellent communication skills required. Willing to work under supervision to assist and provide evidence-based methodologies to assess patient status and recommend care. Ability to lead/facilitate informal educational sessions at the bedside to nursing staff. Ability to evaluate progress of wounds.
