Workers' Compensation Claims Manager manages accountabilities in the administration of first and third party worker's compensation claims. Manages domestic and/or international claim management strategies critical to the organization's success. Being a Workers' Compensation Claims Manager is responsible for reporting, investigation, and analysis; litigation management; resolution/outcome management; and the delivery of claim information. Manages litigated and moderately complex claims and is entrusted with significant settlement authority. Additionally, Workers' Compensation Claims Manager creates and develops relationships with claims adjusters, insurers, outside legal counsel, and other claims related parties. Directs workers' compensation claims policies and procedures within the claim information analysis. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Workers' Compensation Claims Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Workers' Compensation Claims Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     We are seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Claim Manager for an in-office position based on a Monday to Friday schedule from 8am to 5pm. This role focuses on New England Workers' Compensation Claims covering NH, VT, ME, CT, and RI territories. The ideal candidate must possess strong inventory management skills and will supervise a team of 4 supervisors.

     

    As the Claim Manager, you will be responsible for investigating, adjusting, and supervising assigned claims within the specified region. This role entails overseeing and coordinating all claim staff and functions in the claims area. Additionally, this position serves as an advanced training role for potential promotion to higher levels of management.

    Responsibilities

    • Review, assign and provide supervision of all claim activity for designated claims to ensure compliance with Corporate Claim Standards, client specific handling instructions and in accordance with applicable laws.
    • Investigate, evaluate and adjust assigned claims in accordance with established claim handling standards and laws.
    • Reserve establishment and/or oversight of reserves for designated claims within established reserve authority levels.
    • Provide oversight of medical, legal, damage estimates and miscellaneous invoices to determine if reasonable and related to designated claims. Negotiate any disputed bills or invoices for resolution, as appropriate.
    • Authorize and make payments of claims in accordance with claim procedures utilizing a claim payment program in accordance with industry standards and within established payment authority.
    • Negotiate settlements in accordance within Corporate Claim Standards, client specific handling instructions and state laws, when appropriate.
    • Direct handling of designated litigated and complex claims.
    • Provide education, training and assist in the development of claim staff.
    • Review and maintain personal diary on claim system. 
    • Supervision of all claim activity for specified accounts.
    • Attend account Board Meetings, conduct file review meetings and/or training sessions with clients, as requested.
    • Attend and participate at hearings, mediations, and informal legal conferences, as appropriate.
    • Performance appraisals and objective/goal setting and attainment of claim staff.
    • Remain current on all legislative activity (both federal and state), industry and market trends to ensure that all staff members are appropriately informed and understand the impact of these developments.Develop revise and implement workflow processes to ensure efficiencies and provide oversight of individual caseloads, as appropriate.
    • Monitor compliance with Corporate Claim Handling Standards and special client handling instructions statutes, rules and regulations, and relative case law.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Discretion and confidentiality required.
    • Reliable, predictable attendance within client service hours for the performance of this position. 
    • Responsive to internal and external client needs. 
    • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and/or in writing both internally and externally.

     

    Education and/or Experience   

    Bachelor’s Degree or 15 years claim experience.

    Three years supervisory experience required.

                                                                

    Computer Skills   

    Proficient using Microsoft Office products such as, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.                              

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Adjusters license required. 

    AIC, CPCU or ARM Designation preferred.
