Function

Sanitation Equipment Operator / Street Sweeper operatesnumerous types of equipment on public roadways. This equipment may include, butnot limited to a right-side operated street sweeper, right-side operatedautomation truck, rear loader, and other equipment as assigned to keepCharlotte beautiful.

Hours : M-F 6 : 30a-3p

1st Shift

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Position operates numerous types of equipment on public roadways
• Applies herbicide along public rights-of-way
• Uses hand tools when needed
• Prepares pre-trip inspections on the equipment / daily reports / forms
• Detects maintenance needs / performs minor mechanical repairs & adjustments on equipment
• Works in team environment
• Occasionally serve as team leader on small field crews
• Occasional work on days / holidays / other unusual hours in support of special events or emergency response as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to follow specific instructions / recognize / apply safe work practices
• Ability to walk long distances
• Lift & carry 100lbs.
• Work outdoors exposed to all weather conditions
• Ability to work holidays / nights / weekends / other unusual hours as needed in support of special events or emergency response
• Ability to obtain NC Pesticide license within six months of employment

Preferred Qualification

• High School diploma / GED
• Previous manual labor experience

Minimum Qualifications

Five years related work experience

High School Graduate or Equivalent and three years related work experience

Required : CDL

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.

The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to : reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report;

and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and / or participate in other assessments.
