Wood Machine Operator sets-up and operates a wood machine. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Being a Wood Machine Operator may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Wood Machine Operator relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.     Purpose
    Must be capable of manufacturing quality parts on Mazak machine, including setups and changing materials and tools as required. Operator must be able to inspect the parts being produced by using inspection tools. Must be able to utilize and read work orders, customer engineering and blueprints.

    Education and Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Long term on the job training
    • Previous 5 axis machining experience

    Tasks

    • Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments such as micrometers or calipers and portable CMM or FARO.
    • Machine parts to specifications, using 5 axis Mazak machine
    • Experience with I Smooth controls
    • Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.
    • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines per set up documentation.
    • Measure, examine, or test completed parts to check for defects and ensure conformance to customer using precision instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and faro arms.
    • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
    • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition and replace as needed to prevent loss or damage.
    • Study sample parts, read blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine product conformance
    • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
    • Diagnose machine tool malfunctions to determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
    • Confirm with engineering, supervisory, or inspection personnel to verify technical information.
    • Fit and assemble fixtures and cutters to make or repair customer products.
    • Dispose of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
    • Separate scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
    • Evaluate machining procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability per Kaizen process.
    • Making adjustments to machine processes as required by enhancing product quality and process efficiency.
