Women's Athletics Director directs all facets of a university/college's women's athletic program, including intramural and intercollegiate sports. Manages the entire women's coaching staff. Being a Women's Athletics Director schedules use of facilities, transportation, and sporting events. Also responsible for fundraising, publicity, ticket pricing and distribution, and purchase of new equipment. Additionally, Women's Athletics Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Women's Athletics Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Job Description:

    Westover School is seeking a Director of Athletics for the 2024-2025 school year to lead an athletics program that fosters an inclusive and equitable sports culture. The Director of Athletics is responsible for all aspects of the school’s athletic program, including personnel, budget, schedules and event management, facilities, and equipment. This is a unique opportunity to lead an athletics program that is designed to empower young athletes on and off the field. The ideal candidate will be a positive advocate for girls’ centered athletics, collaborative leader, and possess strong organizational and communication skills.

    The Director of Athletics reports to the Dean of Student Life and will be responsible for developing a clear purpose and bold vision for athletics at Westover, shaping an athletic experience that is successful and forward focused. Working with school leadership, the Director of Athletics will highlight best practices and identify areas that need strengthening in order to position Westover Athletics for a fruitful and dynamic future.

At the heart of the program is the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of our students through emphasizing sports skills and strategies such as teamwork, resilience, and character development. We believe in centering positive leadership values such as perseverance, participation, sportsmanship, health and well-being, and competition that will make a life-long impact on Westover student athletes. 

    Responsibilities include:

    Foster positive student-athlete experience in alignment with the school’s mission and Vision for Belonging and Justice.

    Coordinate athletic program, including recruitment, selection, supervision, evaluation, and professional development for all coaches. 

    Maintain a Westover Coaches Handbook to communicate philosophy and policies. 

    Supervise Assistant Athletic Director and Athletic Trainers.

    Manage practice and game schedules for all Westover athletic teams.

    Supervise staff for all home athletic events and act as host to officials and visiting schools.

    Prepare and administer a detailed operating budget for the athletic program to the Chief Financial and Operations Officer and Head of School. 

    Ensure and promote a positive and inclusive environment during games and events

    Serve as Westover representative and ambassador to athletic leagues including Connecticut Independent School Athletic Conference (CISAC), Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) and New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC), ensuring compliance with all league policies and procedures.

    Arrange outside field and facility usage and rental.

    Oversee the distribution, collection, storage, cleaning and repair of all school athletic equipment and uniforms.

    Collaborate with administration, teachers, staff, and outside providers in support of athletic programs.

    Strong verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

    Ability to work scheduled hours including nights and weekends as needed to satisfy athletic facility needs for athletic contests and special/home events.
