Women's Athletics Director directs all facets of a university/college's women's athletic program, including intramural and intercollegiate sports. Manages the entire women's coaching staff. Being a Women's Athletics Director schedules use of facilities, transportation, and sporting events. Also responsible for fundraising, publicity, ticket pricing and distribution, and purchase of new equipment. Additionally, Women's Athletics Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Women's Athletics Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Our unit offers a diverse range of services, including care during triage visits, the labor process, and postpartum care. We're equipped to manage both well newborns and premature infants, even those born as early as 32 weeks gestation.     About our Labor & Delivery Unit:

    24/7/365 NNP services

    800 deliveries annually

    We deliver down to 32 weeks but will deliver to any gestational age in an emergency or case where the patient cannot be transported safely.

    10 couplet care/GYN beds, 7 LDRP rooms, 2 triage beds & 2 Obstetrical operating rooms. Cesarean sections are performed in the OB OR.

    Summit Healthcare’s Level II Nursery is certified by the Arizona Perinatal Trust as a Level II Perinatal Care Center. A special team of skilled physicians, neonatal nurse practitioners, and nurses provide 24- hour care for your baby in a nurturing compassionate, and family friendly setting. The staff in the nursery cares for infants who need special care, including those with respiratory and feeding difficulties or those requiring antibiotic and IV therapy. The Level II Nursery is fully equipped with monitors, bed warmers and isolettes.


    General Position Summary:

    Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Nursing Unit Director is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for the clinical care of a defined group of patient care/clinical areas. Fosters best practices for patients and unit/hospital operations. May also have responsibilities for non-clinical functions related to the clinical area. As the leader, will shape and interpret the standards required to ensure quality outcomes and a high degree of patient, physician and employee satisfaction.

    Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that strategy development leads to outcomes supportive of the goals of the strategic plan.
    • Assesses and manages overall staffing effectiveness by ensuring the appropriate number, competency and skill mix of staff are involved in the provision of needed health care services.
    • Manages unit personnel including: selection, promotion, evaluation, counseling, discipline, training and development, demotion and termination of unit staff.
    • Provides leadership that result in a collegiality between staff, physicians and the leadership team.
    • Assures quality and safety in patient care practices by providing an environment that promotes reporting of patient occurrences and staff involvement in process improvement.
    • Allocates financial, informational, physician and human resources for improvement activities.
    • Manages the financial and capital resources by monitoring operating revenue and expense, establishing and maintaining cost control programs and developing and implementing new or revised programs and/or services.
    • Leads the professional nursing practice by using established standards of care and managing the care delivery system.
    • Utilizes nursing expertise, and managerial skills to foster growth of the service and positively influence physician practice patterns.
    • Plans for current and future equipment and technology needs using research data. Investigates and obtains resources and capital for identified needs.
    • Performs all function according to established policies, procedures; regulatory and accreditation requirements as well as applicable professional standards.
    • Manages personnel, including disseminates information, conducts evaluations, completes conflict resolutions, addresses staff satisfaction issues, and documents above actions.
    • Oversees coordination of patient care.
    • Conducts performance Improvement activities, including Risk Management.
    • Ensures appropriate staffing and complete unit scheduling.
    • Oversees equipment and supply management.
    • Addresses e-mail and phone messages.
    • Collaborates with other departments.
    • Fosters positive physician relationships.
    • Maintains regulatory standards and completes post-survey follow-up.
    • Manages the departmental budget.
    • Prepares for and attends meetings.
    • Ensure that strategy development leads to outcomes supportive of the strategic plan. This is accomplished by taking personal responsibility for results, by being involved in and supportive of facility and organizational decision making and by involving a diverse group of talented people in the achievement of these outcomes.
    • Assesses overall staffing effectiveness by ensuring the appropriate number, competency and skill mix of staff are involved in the provision of needed health care services.
    • Provides leadership that results in a collegiality between staff, physicians and the leadership team. Continually assesses patient satisfaction and sets a high standard for staff and leadership to improve patient satisfaction as measured by survey scores.
    • Assures quality and safety in patient care practices by providing an environment that promotes reporting of patient occurrences and staff involvement in process improvement and creation of best practices for patient care. Is responsible for supporting a Patient Safety Plan that: fosters an environment that focuses on processes and outcomes rather than individual blame and ensures that safety is a priority in design and redesign of new services; allocates financial, informational, physician and human resources for improvement activities; and assures patient and family disclosure of “untoward outcomes.”
    • Manages the financial and capital resources by monitoring operating revenue and expense, establishing and maintaining cost control programs and developing and implementing new or revised programs and/or services.
    • Leads the professional practice of a diverse group by establishing standards of care, integrating theory, leading shared leadership models and designing effective care delivery systems.
    • Utilizes expertise, business planning and managerial skills to ensure growth of the services, positively influence associated physician practice patterns and meet financial expectations.
    • Researches technology; plans for current and future needs using research data; validates need for resources/capital to obtain or support technology.
    • Performs all function according to established policies, procedures; regulator and accreditation requirements as well as applicable professional standards.
    • Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the Shine Behavior Standards.
    • Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.

    Secondary Functions:

    • Must be proficient in the hospital time-card system.
    • Completes projects assigned by the Administrative Team.
    • Collaborates and attends meetings with outside agencies, including NPC and NAU.
    • Mentors new managers.
    • Coordinates unit staffing/direct patient care.
    • Conducts staff education.
    • Orders supplies
    • Maintains/stores backup supplies/equipment and forms. Ensures timely equipment repair/recalibration.
    • Participates in departmental and hospitalwide informational meetings and inservices, including staff meetings, hospitalwide forums, and seminars.
    • Reviews department and hospitalwide policies and procedures annually.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Additional / Seasonal Responsibilities:

    • Prepares for State Accreditation Survey.

    Specific Job Skills & Mental Activities:

    This position requires general nursing skills and knowledge of general office equipment (including the nurse call system, telephone system, fax machine, copy machine, computer, and commonly used hospital programs) as well as excellent computer, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, supervisory, interpersonal skills, basic math skills, and be able to exercise independent judgment skills. This position also requires knowledge of hospital equipment and programs, including all Hospital Information Systems and department specific equipment. This position requires self-direction and self-motivation. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field (required).
    • Current AZ RN license (required).
    • CPR Certification (required within 30 days of hire).
    • Computer experience (required).
    • ACLS Certification (preferred).
    • NRP (preferred)
    • Advanced or Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (preferred)
    • STABLE Certification (preferred)
    • Master’s Degree (preferred).
    • 2-4 years previous experience in a clinical setting (required).
    • 2-4 years previous managerial experience (required).

    Physical Demands & Job Conditions:

    Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. The worker is subject to substantial overtime, evening meetings, on-call status, contact with chemicals, contact with infectious fluids, heavy lifting, constant standing, extensive close work, extensive computer work, and encounters with upset/disturbed individuals.

    Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, stooping, talking, reaching, feeling, sitting, bending, kneeling, grasping, listening/hearing, handling, lifting up to 10 pounds, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.
