Position Overview:

A welder is responsible for using welding equipment and techniques to fuse metal components together according to specifications. This involves working with various types of metals and materials, interpreting blueprints and plans, and ensuring the quality and integrity of the welded joints. Welders may perform their duties in a workshop, factory, or on-site at construction projects. They may work independently or as part of a team, collaborating with other skilled tradespeople and professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Read Blueprints and Plans: Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to understand the welding requirements and specifications.
• Select Materials: Choose appropriate metals and materials based on the project's needs and the type of weld to be performed.
• Prepare Workpieces: Clean, cut, and shape metal pieces using tools such as grinders, cutters, and shears to ensure proper fit and alignment.
• Welding Techniques: Utilize various welding techniques, such as MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and stick welding, to join metal components together.
• Set Up Equipment: Configure and set up welding equipment, including power sources, gas cylinders, electrodes, and filler materials.
• Welding Process: Apply the appropriate welding process based on the materials being used and the type of joint required, ensuring proper heat control and fusion.
• Quality Control: Inspect welds visually and using tools like x-rays or ultrasonic testing to detect defects and ensure weld quality meets industry standards.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents, including wearing protective gear such as helmets, gloves, and safety glasses.
• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on welding equipment to ensure proper functioning
• Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, such as fabricators, engineers, and supervisors, to achieve project goals and timelines

Qualifications

Desired Education, Experience, & Qualifications:

• Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Welder) may be required depending on the industry and location.
• Proficiency in various welding techniques, such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
• Strong understanding of metallurgy and metal properties.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
• Physical stamina and dexterity to work in various positions and environments.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and practices to ensure a safe working environ
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
• Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
