Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Being a Welder inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Additionally, Welder may prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Welder works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. SUMMARY :
Under general supervision, the Welder uses hand welding and flame cutting equipment such as arc welders, gas welders, and gas torches to weld together metal components (flat, horizontal, or vertical plates and pipes).
The Welder aligns and welds components of metal tools, wires, fixtures and other metal products.
JOB DUTIES
Works from sketches, prints, operation sheets, preliminary drawings, and written / verbal instructions.
Maintains welding specifications.
Sets up and operates all welding equipment.
May utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Typically requires a technical degree and one (1) to four (4) years of related experience or an equivalent combination.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Knowledge of Chemistry and Metallurgy.
Understanding of Electricity.
Knowledge of basic computer programming.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to Read Blueprints.
