    The Executive Communications Team within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a Web Application Developer – Journey position. This position can be located in any of our offices listed below:


    • Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA.
    • Bellingham Field Office (BFO) in Bellingham, WA.
    • Central Region Office (CRO) in Union Gap, WA.
    • Eastern Region Office (ERO) in Spokane, WA.
    • Northwest Region Office (NWRO) in Shoreline, WA.
    • Vancouver Field Office (VFO) in Vancouver, WA.

    Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

     

    Please Note: If the final location of this position is determined to be in our Northwest Region Office (NWRO) in Shoreline, WA there will be an additional 5% pay increase due to its location in King County. In this instance the salary range will be $6,938- $9,331 per month.

    Program Mission: The mission of the Communications Program is to provide clear, accurate, and timely communications that explain the work Ecology does, why it matters, and the science behind it. The mission of the Executive Communications Team is to provide critical support to agency leadership, our environmental programs and regions – through communications strategies and delivery of information – via news media, social media, website content, public information and events.

    What makes this role unique?

    In this position, you will play a crucial role in creating engaging experiences for visitors coming to the Department of Ecology’s website, working as a developer within the Executive Communications Team. You will have the opportunity to develop creative solutions to improve and enhance the accessibility of our content and strategize proactive approaches to better serve our audiences. Your passion for developing engaging, accessible web content will help us provide an even more collaborative, integrated, and consistent experience for users navigating the information on our website.

     


     What you will do: 

    • Provide application development support for Ecology's external website Content Management System (CMS) through the maintenance and administration of the custom codebase and system configurations for the agency's enterprise-level external website.
    • Design, document, develop, maintain, and enhance complex applications for the Communications office and provide independent consultation on small to medium-scale projects involving new technologies, technical and organizational complexity, and integration of information systems and data across the agency.
    • Create, implement, maintain, and manage various complex data models and business objects.
    • Collaborate with agency business partners to assess website needs and explore leveraging enterprise web and CMS infrastructure to meet strategic objectives.
    • Participate in project planning processes and scoping exercises to develop accurate recommendations and proactive development approaches.
       

    Required Qualifications:


    Years of required experience indicated below are full-time equivalent years. Full-time equivalent experience means that any experience where working hours were less than 40 hours per week will be prorated in order to meet the equivalency of full-time. We would calculate this by looking at the total hours worked per week, divide this by 40, and then multiply by the total number of months worked. Examples of the proration calculations are:
     

    • 30 hours worked per week for 20 months: (30/40) x 20 months = 15 months full-time equivalent
    • 20 hours worked per week for 12 months: (20/40) x 12 months = 6 months full-time equivalent

     

    Experience for both required and desired qualifications can be gained through various combinations of formal professional employment, education, and volunteer experience. See below for how you may qualify.

     

    A total of four (4) years of experience and/or education as described below:
     

    • Experience: in computer application development and maintenance. Experience includes but not limited to independently analyzing, designing, implementing, maintaining, and/or programming small to medium scale web-based applications.
    • Education: involving a major study in computer science, information technology, or closely related program.
