Waste Water Treatment Technician ensures that pumps, conveyors, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum equipment and other waste water treatment equipment are functioning properly. Monitors equipment for potential failures and may make minor repairs or adjustments as needed. Being a Waste Water Treatment Technician collects water samples for chemical analysis. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Additionally, Waste Water Treatment Technician typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Waste Water Treatment Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.   • General Summary of the Position:

    Responsible for running the day to day operation of a water treatment facility, which includes the operation and maintenance of water wells, distribution system, wastewater treatment plant, collection system, and pump stations. As a lead operator, supervises and works with other employees to operate and maintain these systems.

    • Supervise and work with crew members to accomplish assigned and required tasks.
    • Maintain a clean job site at all plant, well, and pump station locations.
    • Monitor, clean, maintain, and secure tools, equipment, and company vehicles on a daily basis to eliminate potential hazards and/or losses.
    • Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed daily.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Prior experience reading and understanding maps and drawings.
    • Basic mathematical and writing skills.
    • Communication and people skills to work with and lead fellow employees.
    • Ability to read meters and gauges and complete reports.
    • Ability to trouble shoot mechanical and electrical problems
    • Knowledge of plumbing for water and wastewater systems.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in the maintenance of water and wastewater facilities and systems.
    • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety precautions.
    • Ability to work independently and direct daily activities of crew according to the work schedule.
    • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

    Required Education, Training and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
    • Class D Water or Class 3 Wastewater Operator Certification preferred.Ability to obtain one required.
    • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a water/wastewater operator preferred.
    • Prior experience in plumbing of water/wastewater systems (mains, service lines, and water meters).
    • Valid appropriate state driver’s license (general operator license) required; Class A or B CDL strongly preferred.
    • OSHA certifications are a plus (30hr training, trench shoring, confined space and first aid)
    • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.

    Work Environment:

    • Regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, asphalt, water, and sewage.
    • Ability to work in trenches and other confined spaces.
    • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object.
    • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
    • Noise level is generally loud.
