Description:
The Abington/Rockland Joint Water Works is currently accepting resumes for 1 Full-Time Drinking Water Operator. We are seeking a motivated, dedicated individual who is interested in this rewarding drinking water field. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, with great communication skills. The treatment department at Abington/Rockland promotes a team environment with opportunity for advancement.
Candidates that have a science background and are interested in obtaining a drinking water license are encouraged to apply. Support and training will be provided to advance license grades. Those with mechanical & plumbing knowledge and experience in the water or wastewater fields are encouraged to apply as well.

Basic Function & Scope:
- Responsible for the production of quality potable drinking water.
- Maintain accurate and true records of treatment plant water quality and production.
- Perform daily laboratory work required in water production.
- Candidates must have a basic understanding of water treatment: working knowledge of pumps, motors, filters, and other related treatment plant equipment. A basic understanding of water treatment chemistry is also required.
- The ability to maintain equipment and diagnose and correct malfunctions that may occur during the operation of the treatment plant is necessary.
- Basic computer skills and SCADA knowledge is required.
- Must be able to communicate with other operators, supervisors, and customers of the Joint Water Works in a professional manner.
- Must be able to multitask.
- Perform routine scheduled maintenance of treatment facilities including exterior landscaping.
Examples of Duties:
- Continually evaluate the treatment procedures for assurance of the delivery of quality potable drinking water to the customers of the Joint Water Works.
- Performs hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly laboratory water quality evaluations.
- Performs necessary adjustments to the chemical feed systems to guarantee the safety of the drinking water.
- Performs preventative maintenance and necessary repairs to chemical feed pumps, piping manifolds, valves, etc.
- Schedules and performs all interior and exterior building maintenance: organizing tools, lavatory maintenance, snow removal, landscaping etc.
- Identify and resolve problems with water quality or equipment in the treatment plant.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Performs related duties as directed by the Superintendent.
Work Schedule
- Pay rates displayed are for an Operator Without a License Step 3 ($27.97) to aGrade IV Licensed Operator ($35.27). Payment compensation & step raises will DOE and licensing per the Union Contract.
- SCHEDULE - 2 OPTIONS: (Option #1) rotating schedule (Option #2) if a candite is interested, we offer a permanent, 3rd shift (Sun-Thurs, 10pm-6am).
- 40 hours/week, some nights & weekends, and holidays.
- Additional hours to perform operational duties and/or emergency response will be required.
- Mandatory Emergency 24 hour on call rotation (about every 5-7 weeks).
- Overtime contribution is expected.

Successful candidates will have:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid Massachusetts driver's license.
- Special consideration will be given to those that apply with valid Drinking Water Licenses and experience in the drinking water or science related field.
- A candidate with any drinking water license is preferred. A Grade III Treatment Operators Certification is a plus. Must be able to obtain a grade III drinking water license if hired with a license lower than a Grade III. The Department will pay for all schooling and exams for licensing.
- Applicants are asked to provide: 3 references with their resume and cover letter. If an applicant has Drinking Water licenses, copies of those Drinking Water licenses should accompany the resume and cover letter as well.
- Applicants must pass a CORI check.
- Payment compensation & step raises will DOE and licensing per the Union Contract.
