The Primary Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the water treatment facilities and the wastewater pumping facilities. These facilities include the wells, the pumping units, the aerators, the filtration tanks, the chemical feed systems, and the disinfection system. The operator is responsible for testing the water characteristics so as to accurately maintain the proper dosages of the applied chemicals. The operator is responsible for keeping accurate and complete records of the pumping and treatment process operations and maintenance. The position is also responsible for other related assignments as required, including the plowing of snow.
Requirements: Possession of a valid Massachusetts Drinking Water Supply Operator Certification of Grade 2 Treatment. Education and experience requirements are determined by the Board of Certification of Operators of Drinking Water Supply Facilities and are outlined on the Education and Experience Requirements Worksheet for Operator Grade and Status. Also, basic knowledge of personal computers, SCADA systems, electricity, and effective oral communications skills. Possession of a valid Massachusetts Class B CDL with airbrakes endorsement is a plus.
