    General Position Summary:

     

    As a Volunteer Coordinator for our organization, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing a robust volunteer program with a strong focus on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for those with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities. You will play a key role in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for volunteers from diverse backgrounds while ensuring their engagement aligns with our organization's values and objectives. Through your volunteer recruitment efforts, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of support and services we provide to our community.

     

    Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

     

    • Develop and implement recruitment strategies that actively target volunteers from diverse backgrounds to ensure the program reflects our commitment to inclusivity and aligns with our mission.
    • Collaborate with community partners and local organizations to attract volunteers who are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for our clients.
    • Conduct comprehensive orientation sessions to welcome new volunteers and provide them with a clear understanding of our organization's mission, values, and expectations. Organize and deliver appropriate training sessions to ensure volunteers are well-prepared for their roles.
    • Maintain a database of volunteers and their skill sets, interests, and availability. Match volunteers with suitable opportunities within the organization, ensuring their skills are utilized effectively.
    • Regularly communicate with volunteers to provide support, address concerns, and recognize their contributions.
    • Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, activities, and achievements. Prepare regular reports on volunteer program metrics, presenting data to management and board of directors.
    •  Collaborate with department Managers to identify volunteer needs and develop impactful volunteer duties that align with the organization's objectives.
    •  Ensure that all volunteer activities comply with organizational policies, legal requirements, and safety guidelines. Provide necessary training and support to volunteers to ensure their safety and wellbeing during their engagement with the organization.

     

    Secondary Functions:

     

    • Coordinate with Resource Development Manager to recruit and assign responsibilities to volunteers for all fundraiser events.
    • Ensure event tasks and duties are well communicated to volunteers to ensure the event runs as smooth as possible.
    • Availability to help at functions designated by Resource Development Manager.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Specific Job Skills Required:

     

    • Proven experience as a Volunteer Coordinator at a non-profit organization.
    • Experience in recruiting diverse volunteers through various channels.
    • Working knowledge of databases and MS Office.
    • Able to communicate effectively with diverse people.
    • Excellent organizational and coordination abilities.
    • A pleasant, outgoing personality.

     

    Job Scope:

     

    Performs duties independently with minimal supervision, operates from established and well-known procedures.  Decisions are made within general company policy constraints but may occasionally require independent decision making.

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

     

    This position is not supervisory in nature but provides direction and tasks to volunteers when necessary. The supervisory responsibilities include tracking hours, signing timesheets for requirements and training.

     

    Interpersonal Contacts:

     

    Has both internal and external contacts.  The most common internal contacts are with departments managers.  The most frequent external contacts are with local businesses, universities, etc. for volunteer recruiting and other fundraising purposes.  The types of interactions, for both internal and external contacts, are to help grow and advance the company’s volunteer workforce.

     

     

    Education and/or Experience Required:

     

    • BS/BA in Business and/or Communication
    • 3 years Volunteer Coordinator experience.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
    • Understanding of the needs of volunteers and the benefits of volunteerism.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as necessary.
    • Creating and maintaining organizational processes.
    • Electronic filing and reporting.

     

    Job Conditions:

     

    This position will mainly be in the office with some light travel needed for networking events and meetings with potential volunteers. May be required to attend meetings outside of regular shifts, including weekends.
