    Job Overview:

    How would you like to be responsible for bringing smiles to hundreds of faces each month? If you want to help a leader in the animal welfare community share the benefits of the human-animal bond within the community, ARF has the perfect job for you. You will be responsible for facets of our volunteer community, lead public-facing programs, and represent ARF by working with its Community Engagement team to develop and implement outreach opportunities sharing the incredible programs and educational materials ARF offers.

    You need to be an excellent communicator, creative, outgoing, self-motivated, organized, enthusiastic about the human-animal bond, and community-driven to take on this exciting role. A positive attitude and ability to be a motivational team player is a must.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Interact and communicate with colleagues, volunteers, and the public in a manner that advances a culture of positivity, professionalism, trust, transparency, empathy, and excellence at Joybound.
    • Leads the execution of the Pet Hug Pack, ARF birthday parties, Student & Pet Alliance high school clubs, group events, and community outreach (tabling, etc.) in collaboration with volunteers.
    • Working with the Volunteer Services Manager develops and executes the strategy for outreach activities, including community events, appearances, and other communication opportunities. Maintains outreach calendar.
    • Monitors and assesses the volunteer needs for weekly scheduling of programs listed above; recruit replacements when shifts are open, including last-minute department requests for volunteers.
    • Schedule volunteers for special events, both external and internal.
    • Collaborates closely with ARF managers to determine departmental volunteer needs.
    • Analyze requests and listen attentively to best match volunteers with ARF programming.
    • Schedule, attend, and participate in outreach exhibitions in the community.
    • Educate community members on how they can get involved with ARF through volunteering, fostering, adoptions, etc.
    • Work seamlessly and respectfully with staff and volunteers to assure each program and event is staffed to provide appropriate expertise.
    • Prepare accurate records and reports on the goals of the volunteer and outreach programs.
    • Assist in the organization of special events, including donor/volunteer appreciation events and other initiatives. Attendance at these events is required.
    • Covers the ARF reception desk as needed for breaks, lunch, and PTO.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
    • Promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals and people.
    • Maintain effective communication and cooperation with ARF staff and volunteers.
    • Perform duties in a manner that encourages attainment of goals, contributions, and business for ARF and its programs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred. High school diploma or GED required.
    • Experience of 2-3 years working with pet related organizations preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Proficient in computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Access). Ability to learn new database systems and develop consistent procedures for these systems.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate with the public, volunteers, and co-workers in a pleasant, courteous, and tactful manner.
    • Outstanding presentation skills.
    • Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude.
    • Strong knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms.
    • Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
    • Must have a valid California Driver’s License
    • Pre-employment background screening required.

    Physical/Environmental Requirements

    • Work environment includes constant exposure to animals and animal allergens.
    • Ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds for short distances.
    • Kneel, bend, stoop, squat, reach above and below shoulder level, grasp and turn objects, stand, and/or walk frequently and repetitively throughout each shift.
    • Flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist.
    • Sit for long and short periods of time while using a computer.
    • Tetanus and rabies inoculations are required or must be waived.
    • Drive an automobile.

    Hours

    Full time: 40 hours per week. Daily reporting hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department. Weekend and evening work may be required. Periodic hours may be needed to cover vacation and illness of co-workers.
