Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Volunteer Coordinator typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.     BASIC PURPOSE

    The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for all areas of recruitment, placement, coordination and recognition of volunteers for The Salvation Army in Tracy County Administration. This position supports and coordinates meetings, events and activities of the Tracy and Stockton Advisory Board.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Administration

      1. Coordinate efforts with other departments with the Stockton outreach team.
      2. Assist in designing, implementing, and managing policy and procedures for work and service with homeless populations.
      3. Ensure that all homeless outreach and service contracts are accurate and under compliance through review of case management files, recording of statistics, and other pertinent measurement tools.
      4. Maintain a Policy and Procedures manual in compliance with The Salvation Army Standards of Service for Social Service Program.
      5. Collaboration with the head department

    Development and Networking

    1. Coordinates services with other agencies such as mental health, homeless shelters, substance abuse programs, vocational rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, and housing.
    2. Outreach and network with other agencies to build a referral and collaboration base as needed for program services and other related needs.
    3. Provide oral and written reports to linked agencies.
    4. Support all community outreach for the street-bound homeless and substance abuse persons, including managing and supervising volunteer and special events.
    5. Assists with the Monthly newsletter.

    VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

      1. Develop or use existing web-based volunteer recruitment, management and oversight tool.
      2. Maintain volunteer personnel data format according to Salvation Army standards.
      3. Ensure all volunteer packets are scanned to DHQ Volunteer Coordinator for processing.
      4. Develop and carry out a volunteer on-board orientation program.
      5. Interview Corps officers and site coordinators to establish and document volunteer needs.
      6. Place volunteers in appropriate positions for one-time needs and ongoing needs.
      7. Develop a Volunteer Recognition program.
      8. Creating opportunities for volunteers at the shelter.
      9. Maintain a safe environment for all Salvation Army personnel and volunteers working with the homeless population.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

    1. Ability to keep ALL volunteer personnel matters confidential.
    2. Highly organized and ability to maintain file systems.
    3. Reliable and dependable.
    4. Excellent communication skills and experience in working with non-profits; ability work with diverse communities; strong verbal and written skills are essential.
    5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    6. Must be goal oriented, self-motivated and able to multi-task.
    7. Microsoft Office products, including Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher) with a demonstrated ability to read financial statements, create correspondence and maintain spreadsheets and databases.
    8. Background knowledge of Salvation Army practices (policies and procedures) and organization helpful.
    9. Valid CA driver's license.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
    • Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
    • Ability to reach overhead.
    • Ability to operate telephone.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
    • Ability to operate a computer.
    • Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
    • Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools.
    • 10% travel required.
