Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Job Summary:
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for assisting the volunteer department in making each volunteer experience a memorable one from the time they register to the follow up after their volunteer shift. This position is key to making sure Food Share is a welcoming, safe, and fun environment for all volunteers. This position also assists in all volunteer activities as needed. The position is a full-time hourly, non-exempt and at-will position that may include some evening and weekend shifts to accommodate our volunteer needs.
Essential Functions:
· Prepare and lead tours and orientations for potential and new volunteers.
· Greet volunteers and direct them to the appropriate locations on-site and during special events.
· Train, supervise, and educate individual volunteers and groups.
· Ensure the purpose of the organization and its actions are clearly communicated and reinforced throughout the volunteer experience.
· Lead follow up volunteer surveys, analyze results, and report back to management with proposed changes.
· Conduct ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by volunteers and implement improvements as necessary.
· Assist with leading volunteer groups, including but not limited to box packing, rescue food sorting, food distributions, and special events.
· Create, implement, and maintain a volunteer recognition program.
· Collaborate with all Food Share departments in a team atmosphere to achieve Food Share goals and objectives towards its mission.
· Adhere to and promote the policies and procedures in the Volunteer Handbook and the Employee Handbook.
· Oversee cleanliness and inventory of volunteer check in and break room area and request facilities assistance when needed.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers.
· Develop and maintain new recruitment strategies for volunteers including virtual and off-site (non-Corporate) opportunities.
· Other duties as assigned by the Sr. Director, Community Engagement.
Job Qualifications:
· Commitment to understanding and supporting Food Share’s mission and demonstrating compassion and understanding of hunger issues.
· Able to work well in a team-oriented environment as well as independently.
· Possesses excellent interpersonal skills within a diverse environment.
· Able to work creatively, strategically, and analytically.
· Some night and/or weekends work may be necessary.
· Strong computer and time management skills.
· A valid California Driver’s License and current vehicle insurance.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to perform physical labor as necessary (stand/walk/move for long periods of time, lift up to 30 lbs., work with/near warehouse equipment).
· Must be comfortable working in an office environment for extended periods of time.
· Travel off-site as needed.
Employment Requirements:
· Able to successfully pass health screenings and background checks.
· Follow Food Safety Standards throughout the organization.
