Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Volunteer Coordinator typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.     As the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, you will be an integral part of our Church Partnership's Team, playing a pivotal role in developing and executing engaging volunteer opportunities.

    Your primary responsibilities will include coordinating year-round recruitment, onboarding, and training efforts, represent the Mission's Volunteer Program in the Community, expertly manage our volunteer management system and development CRM, and capture pictures, videos and stories of transformed lives through volunteerism at the Mission.

    But more importantly, you will serve as an ambassador of the Mission, representing Christ and the Mission's mission, vision, and values.

    Key Responsibilities :

    • Collaborate with staff to plan volunteer opportunities consistent with the needs of several departments. Reserve rooms and coordinate audio / visual, food requests, greeters etc.
    • Critically think and address the necessary steps well in advance of events.
    • Manage the volunteer calendar of events for outside groups, including churches, corporations, donors, schools and more.
    • Screen, onboard and train volunteers. Personally welcome volunteers, provide tours, orientation, and training.
    • Match individuals and groups with volunteer opportunities that fit interests and skills.
    • Follow-up with all volunteers, with additional experiences and opportunities to give financially.
    • Schedule and conduct tours of the Mission with interested individuals and groups.
    • Maintain up-to-date records of volunteers for tracking, communication, and reporting purposes.
    • Be proficient in the volunteer management system and donor CRM, able to update volunteer opportunities, query data, run reports and maintain standards for data entry.
    • Assist with volunteer communications and appreciation efforts / events.
    • Create a system to log videos, photos, and stories for easy use. Get signed releases.

    Qualifications :

    • Always demonstrate Christ-centered behavior by treating people with dignity, respect, compassion, and integrity.
    • A deep commitment to the mission and values of the San Diego Rescue Mission.
    • Minimum bachelor's degree in Humanities or related field from an accredited institution.
    • Minimum 2 years full-time work experience as a volunteer coordinator or similar position. Nonprofit experience preferred.
    • Proven ability to think critically and be able to work out a solution to a problem / situation using independent judgement.
    • Proven ability to juggle many tasks at once and work independently.
    • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook and Canva.
    • Coordinate and / or direct a variety of complex tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully.
    • Exercise good judgment and make sensible decisions.
    • Attentive to detail and prioritize effectively.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills; eagerness to learn and be trained.
    • Proven ability to provide information to the public by answering questions and requests.
    • Work both independently and as part of a team.
