Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. In this role, you will plan, organize, manage, and implement new and effective volunteer and internship programs for the City of Missoula Police Department and other departments.

The posted wage range is the starting wage range only. The full range for the position is $22.41 - $26.10 / hour and will increase each year for longevity and cost of living adjustments.
Essential Functions
Manage multiple volunteer and internship programs; develop program goals, objectives, and record systems.
Provide support, training, and supervision to volunteers and interns.
Plan and implement strategies to recruit and place volunteers and interns within the department; screen, interview, select, and compile work schedules.
Analyze department work sites to determine potential for volunteer and intern placement.
Perform evaluations for both individual and program performances.
Promote volunteer and internship programs within various community groups.
Coordinate and co-host community-oriented events to foster positive relationships and engagement within the local community.
Assist to ensure the Volunteer page of the website is current and engaging.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of business operations and program management principles and practices, including staff management, training, scheduling, program development, record management, and creating technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
Knowledge of and ability to promote department safety considerations, City safety policies, and the Americans with Disability Act.
Knowledge of various volunteer management concepts, and community service programs.
Skill in planning, developing, and maintaining programs to utilize volunteers, interns, and community resources for recruitment of individuals.
Skill in operating office equipment, various computer software and databases, including Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn job-specific applications and equipment.
Skill in analyzing and implementing strategies and procedures to attain program goals and objectives.
Skill in creating educational and promotional materials, publications, and written reports.
Skill in public speaking, with the ability to train, present data, and other findings to a variety of diverse groups and individuals.
Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
Ability to coordinate multiple programs while prioritizing tasks with shifting priorities and providing problem-solving solutions to various situations.
Ability to deliver comprehensive and tailored training sessions and effectively teach individuals of various skill sets to ensure a thorough understanding of all necessary task related concepts.
Ability to resolve conflicts and guide discussions toward mutually beneficial resolutions, while maintaining a composed demeanor.

Ability to learn departmental and City of Missoula practices and procedures.
Qualifications and Additional Application Materials
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to two (2) years of program management experience or another related field, including supervisory and training experience.
Must be able to pass a police background investigation and sign statement of confidentiality.
Experience in a volunteer-related field, preferred.
