Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Volunteer and Event Coordinator builds volunteer capacity at Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson. This role is dedicated to establishing and enhancing sustainable systems for tracking, supporting, managing, and training volunteers. It involves the recruitment of both one-time and skills-based volunteers, including interns, and plays a crucial role in the organization's event planning and execution.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
· Develop and implement a volunteer program to engage and utilize high-value, specialized, and leadership-oriented volunteers effectively.
· Plan, execute, and oversee projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
· Assist stewardship efforts by managing volunteer stewardship calendar, assisting with volunteer e-newsletter, and business partnerships that provide support for the Partner Site.
· Recruit and provide training for community members to serve as volunteers, enhancing the infrastructure and effectiveness of BGCC programs.
· Ensure all volunteers receive the necessary training and support to carry out their tasks safely and effectively.
· Maintain adherence to all legal and organizational policies and procedures relating to volunteer involvement.
· Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers, answering any questions and addressing concerns in a timely and professional manner.
· Monitor and report on volunteer program and infrastructure development.
· Work directly alongside volunteers, offering guidance and support, to foster a deeper understanding of client needs and improve overall volunteer satisfaction.
· Participate in the planning and coordination of various events throughout the year.
· Assist with taking photos and videos at events.
· Develop and manage volunteer schedules and assignments for regular activities and special events.
· Ensure the successful execution and achievement of objectives at BGCC events.
· Positively represent organization in a variety of settings, including recruitment opportunities, staff meetings, trainings, and events.
· Engage in and support community building activities to enhance the organization's outreach and impact.
· Foster and maintain positive relationships with program staff.
· Additional tasks as required by the Resource Development team to support evolving organizational needs.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and organizing locations for events. Builds relationships with outside vendors.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION/SKILLS:
· Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
· A minimum of 1 year experience in planning and managing events for non-profits, from conceptualization to execution, including logistics, budgeting, and post-event evaluation.
· Familiarity with digital tools and platforms used for managing volunteer information, scheduling, and communications.
· Proficient in fundraising strategies and the ability to engage volunteers in fundraising efforts.
· Display a genuine interest or have a background in community service and volunteerism, contributing to the mission and values of BGCC.
· Perform duties across various locations within California, requiring flexibility to travel and work in different environments, including indoor, outdoor, night, and weekend settings.
· Adapt effectively to changes in the work environment, embrace feedback, and manage multiple tasks and pressures with a collaborative and conflict-resolution mindset.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, along with skills in utilizing social media and digital tools for outreach, engagement, and communication.
· Operate both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong organizational skills and the capacity to juggle several responsibilities simultaneously.
· Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
· Ability to be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the program’s safety policies and rules.
· Strong personal standards of excellence, ethics and integrity.
· Possess leadership and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.

· Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications and TB clearance.
· Valid State Driver’s License.
· Clear criminal background check (DOJ and FBI; National Sex Offender Public Database).
· Must be fully vaccinated for COVID.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Tasks that involve the ability to exert physical effort, typically involving some combination of standing for long periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.
