Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Volunteer Coordinator typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.   • Overview

    This position is responsible for managing, coordinating and developing the volunteer services for all areas of NARMC including Hospice Volunteers and NARMC Auxiliary.

    This position is also responsible for the NARMC Gold Club.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensures all Volunteer and/or Auxiliary functions are in accordance with the applicable By-Laws, Rules and Regulations. Facilitates and promotes positive relationships between the Volunteers and Auxiliary Services and NARMC. Works with Volunteer leaders and NARMC managers to identify and develop meaningful work and positive relationships.
    • Ensures Hospice Volunteers and managed in accordance with the applicable policies and procedures for Hospice volunteers, coordinating activities through the Home Care and Hospice Services Director, or his/her designee
    • Recruits and interviews Volunteer Candidates. Ensures that volunteers are adequately trained and oriented to their assigned departments and work assignments. Facilitates new members' inclusion into the Volunteer organization.
    • Insures that volunteers are matched to appropriate positions. Works with all NARMC Departments to assess needs in individual areas. Creates job descriptions to support those needs.
    • Strives for growth in the volunteer programs. Develops a plan to recruit new volunteers to the service and sets monthly goals for that development.
    • Continually strives for professional improvement and development through participation in organizations
    • Develops all necessary records and forms for the department to document the administration of Volunteer Services. Maintains adequate supplies for the efficient operation of the department.
    • Promotes community interest in the volunteer program and the hospital through speaking engagements, special receptions, hospital tours and other public relations activities.
    • Coordinates the annual volunteer recognition event and any other events that support
    • Attends Annual and District Volunteer meetings
    • Plans and implements all Volunteer and Gold Club events and activities (weekly, monthly, and yearly).
    • Interacts and encourages membership in Gold Club
    • Coordinates with the Director of Marketing and Community Relations and others as appropriate regarding events and public relations/marketing including communications for internal and external markets.
    • Handles disputes and/or disagreements among the volunteers, volunteer employees, in a professional manner preserving a positive relationship with NARMC and its departmental leaders and Administration.
    • Responsible for the oversight of the Auxiliary Gift Shop and the Snack Corner at the Med Plaza including volunteers, ordering of merchandise, design of the gift shop, etc.
    • Responsible for oversight of the Auxiliary’s Thrift Shop and NARMC personnel assigned to that department, ensuring compliance with all NARMC policies and procedures including personnel and HR policies.
    • Acts as liaison between the Director of Marketing and Community Relations and the Auxiliary leadership facilitating good relationships and professional atmosphere.
    • Coordinate with the Marketing Department on the layout and design of the Gold Club and Auxiliary
    • Demonstrates effective leadership skills of delegation, organization and coordination of inter-department activities and external departmental integration.
    • Maintains positive working relationships with other hospital departments, deals with conflict in a positive and effective
    • Assures the ongoing development and implementation of policies and procedures that Guide and support the provision of
    • Evaluates effectiveness of continuing education and in-service training activities. Plans annual budgets for departments of responsibility.
    • Any duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Community Relations

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Associate Degree plus five years' of solid work experience in related role or combination of education and experience
    • 3 – 5 years’ experience in management or supervision with strong organizational skills and excellent communication and customer service sklls
    • Demonstrated ability with team building.
    • Ability to plan, organize and implement programs Ability to assume and delegate responsibility

    • Ability to relate effectively to people of diverse socio- economic backgrounds, skills and abilities

    • Must be able to communicate skillfully and effectively with all health care disciplines.

    • Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the issues intrinsic to managing and rewarding volunteer staff.

    Preferred:

    • BS Degree in related discipline
    • Experience with working with volunteer or volunteer organizations
    • Certified Volunteer Manager
