Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Volunteer Coordinator typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes. Thank you for your interest in becoming a Junior Volunteer at Kern Medical Center! Your service is greatly appreciated by our staff, patients, and their families. The program’s primary goal is to teach the value of community service in a healthcare setting. Junior responsibilities include working in the gift shop, the snack bar, information desk and assisting in various
departments and clinics.
Dependability, maturity, honesty and professionalism are important qualities we look for in a Junior Volunteer. Please understand that we have a limited number of volunteer opportunities and we cannot guarantee every applicant a spot. Job responsibilities and positions will be discussed during the volunteer interview.
Your first uniform is free, and a $5.00 membership fee is due at orientation. You are required to wear white or navy-blue pants or scrubs with rubber-sole shoes. No shorts, jeans or open toed shoes are allowed on volunteer shifts.
This program will offer you the opportunity to become acquainted with the many career possibilities in healthcare, to learn the essentials of commitment and responsibility, and to serve others in a meaningful way.
To be eligible for the Junior Volunteer Program students must:
1. 15 – 18 years of age
2. Be a full-time student in the 9th through 12th grade.
3. Have received at least a “C” in all classes.
4. Complete interview with the Volunteer Services Manager
5. Submit the application packet with all the requested attachments.
6. Complete lab requirements for health screening.
7. Attend Hospital Orientation when scheduled
8. Be available to volunteer at least once a week for a 3-4-hour shift.
9. Volunteer a minimum of 100 hours before any letters of reference will be provided.
10. Summer program volunteers are expected to complete at least 7 weeks.

Personal Reference Form
Copy of most recent Report Card (No progress reports)
Copy of School Immunization Record (Available from your school)
A small photograph of yourself (only you, no group photos)
