Marketing and Communications Manager
  • The Colossian Forum
  • Grand Rapids, MI FULL_TIME

    ORGANIZATION

The Colossian Forum (“TCF”) is dedicated to equipping Christians to display the beauty of Christ right at the heart of our most painful conflicts, teaching believers to talk, discern, and act together as Christians in faithful ways that our divided world can no longer imagine. To that end, TCF has fine-tuned innovative practices for helping Christian organizations (like churches, schools, and non-profits) face into the challenges stemming from internal or external conflicts. Through thought-leadership and programming—including public events, small-group sessions, leader training and coaching, and intentional relationships—we prove that divisive issues can become catalysts to build healthy and life-giving communities that are growing in love of God and neighbor.

As a young but well-established non-profit ministry, TCF is positioned to grow dramatically over the next few years both in size and influence. Our vision is for transformed Christian communities—transformed from places of combative polarization (and losing credibility with young people and in larger society) to places that are charitable, thoughtful, and able to engage tough problems. Communities that know that even in disagreements, “all things hold together in Christ” (Col. 1:17).

    OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a passionate, relational, missional, and highly motivated Marketing and Communications Manager (the “Manager”) to support TCF as we spread our message to a wider audience, leading to deeper missional and financial engagement. The Manager will help grow our base of invested partners through dynamic and innovative efforts, leveraging TCF’s unique and inspirational mission.

This position offers the opportunity to bear witness to the growing fruit of the Spirit in people’s lives as the Church is transformed more fully into the likeness of Christ even in the midst of conflict. Working alongside passionate and talented colleagues, the Manager will have the chance to grow professionally and personally as he/she undertakes purposeful work for God’s Kingdom.

    AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Manager will work closely with the Vice President (“VP”) of Marketing and Communications and the Vice President of Partnerships to develop, lead, and execute a wide range of strategies to reach key audiences. The Manager will collaborate with internal teams to understand business and missional objectives and create collateral (in digital and print) to meet those objectives.

These priorities will be achieved through the following activities:

    Overview of Responsibilities

    • Execute and champion communications strategies and plans, at the direction of the VP of Marketing and Communications, that support annual strategic goals, enhance the organizational brand, strengthen brand awareness, and promote missional effectiveness and growth.
    • Own TCF’s communications calendar pursuant to established strategies, maintaining consistent standards and best practices for all external communications.
    • Create engaging and meaningful content for a variety of channels, such as the website, blog, social media, press releases, podcast, email newsletter, and marketing collateral.

    Detailed Activities (by area)

    MARKETING

    • Manage TCF’s digital marketing efforts and partnerships, including Google Ads (Google Grants), social media marketing, and search engine optimization (SEO), at the direction of the VP of Marketing and Communications.
    • Coordinate marketing collateral for conference exhibits and act as the point-of-contact for conference displays, booth reservations, and material shipment and return. Occasionally attend conferences as a TCF representative.
    • Manage website content, at the direction of the VP of Marketing and Communications, using analytics to assess performance against goals.

    COMMUNICATIONS

    • Work in collaboration with the TCF team and external partners to communicate missional impact through story-focused content, using both compelling visuals and written communication.
    • Lead the execution of the creation, distribution, and reporting of impact on recurring communications, including (but not limited to) social media, podcasts, email newsletters, web features and stories, and video content.
    • Execute the dispersal of constituent communications, ensuring that messages do not compete, that every communication follows its strategic purpose, and that TCF avoids an excess of messaging or extraneous communications.
    • Edit and proofread communications for accuracy, brand standards, grammar, spelling, and overall excellence as needed.
    • Correspond with TCF’s constituents and stakeholders to gather and document stories of the mission’s impact on their faith and discipleship; manage TCF’s testimonial database and use of these stories.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A deep resonance with TCF’s mission, as well as a disposition for ongoing learning related to the organization’s mission and purpose.
    • Strong Christian faith and character, and agreement with TCF’s Statement of Faith as stated in the Nicene and Chalcedonian Creeds.
    • A passion for working on behalf of Christian organizations, with an unshakable belief in the Church’s potential to be winsome in an increasingly uninviting world.
    • Bachelor’s degree or above, and strong writing, grammar, and editing skills along with superior interpersonal communication and story-telling skills.
    • Ability to clearly discuss complex issues in ways that energize listeners through writing compelling fundraising letters and proposals.
    • Well-developed organizational skills to prioritize and efficiency execute tasks, deadlines, and follow-up.
    • Strong self-motivation, time management, accountability, and independent decision-making skills.
    • Capacity for strategic vision to work with senior leadership on marketing, communications, and fundraising priorities, and to use metrics to ensure accountability.
    • A positive attitude that demonstrates enthusiasm, professionalism, and self-confidence.
    • Competency with a range of technology, as well as Microsoft and Google applications. Comfortable using video conferencing technology. Experience with Salesforce is preferred.
