Visitor Engagement Associate

The Visitor Engagement Associate position is at a Science and Wildlife Center located in the Coyote Point Park in San Mateo. We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer service driven individual for our front desk & gift shop that must be able to represent our business professionally while projecting an upbeat demeanor. We also have evening events (weddings, birthdays, corporate events) that you might be asked to work if available. You will work with a team, but sometimes work independently for the duration of the shift with limited supervision. Every employee has the opportunity to participate in DEI work.

The ideal candidate will be scheduled 40 hours throughout the week.

Museum Hours:
10am-5pm Tuesday - Sunday
During Events hours are 4pm-12midnight.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform the daily open and closing procedures consistently; including walking through the animal exhibits; unlocking doors; turning on exhibits.
• Be knowledgeable about the merchandise, museum offerings and answer customer questions
• Ring up all transactions correctly using the POS system
• Assist the Front Desk with questions and selling tickets and museum memberships, includes both typing for short periods of time (no longer than 5 minutes at a time) and use of the mouse for point and click procedures.
• Assist the Gift Shop with retail needs and Events with miscellaneous duties
• Stock & merchandise throughout the day. Store products include- eg: toys, drinks, snacks, etc.
• Light housekeeping duties (cleaning exhibits and the front desk at the end of the day; bending and reaching to pick up exhibit items; replacing printer toner and/or drum; etc.)

• Demonstrated ability to show sensible & sound thinking when handling a situation
• Ability to communicate in English (multi-language speaker is a PLUS)

Environment: Work is conducted primarily at CuriOdyssey. Occasionally work is conducted in the field for outreach and special events. Mileage will be reimbursed for use of personal vehicle for approved organization business.
Mobility: Physical ability and endurance to carry and lift heavy materials, up to 50 pounds, and/or frequently move from a sitting to standing position. Bending, reaching, and twisting may be required.
