Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Unique opportunity for a Veterinary Technician with interests in both general veterinary practice and HQHVSN in Hudson Falls, NY. Full time position with schedule flexibility within a 4 day work week available Monday through Friday. Previous veterinary experience (traditional or spay/neuter) required. Ability/willingness to thrive in a fast paced dynamic environment. Responsibilities will include patient check in/out, exams and assessments, surgery prep, induction, anesthesia monitoring, post surgical recovery, administration of medications/patient treatments, radiography, in-house blood analysis, medication handling, client communication, phone answering, scheduling, computer skills, etc. Must be able to multi-task and think on your feet when needed. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised a plus. Successful candidates must be timely, focused, caring and interested in providing high quality veterinary care. Clinic hours are 7:30am to 5pm, part time candidates considered but full time preferred. Interested applicants will be required to demonstrate competency prior to hire, however some on site training is available.
