Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.     About the role: We are seeking multiple full-time or part-time Veterinary Technicians to support the urgent care team at our local hospital. The incoming team will never work an overnight shift. Our ideal candidate is a Registered Veterinary Technician with strong technical skills, including the ability to obtain blood samples, place IV catheters, run lab work, safely restrain patients, and more, with limited supervision.
    Job Responsibilities:
    • Perform patient triage.
    • Provide restraint to assist with patient exams and care.
    • Collect blood samples via phlebotomy, place IV catheters, and provide care for patients in the hospital.
    • Observe patients, recognize changes in status, and communicate any changes to the DVM(s) in a timely fashion.
    • Obtain and appropriately record patients’ vital signs.
    • Perform medical treatments as directed by DVM.
    • Check in clients, review estimates for care, and properly relay discharge instructions upon patient check-out.
    • Perform drug calculations as directed by DVM.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Skills and Qualifications:
    • 3-5 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician
    • Experience in an urgent care or emergency setting is preferred but not required
    • Time management and multi-tasking skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Collaborative and adaptable attitude
