Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Eastside Veterinary Clinic is a three-doctor facility seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team. We have served the beautiful East Side of Providence community for nearly 25 years! We provide only the best care for cats and dogs and the highest level of service for clients.

Qualified candidates will be versed and experienced in the following general veterinary technician roles within the clinic:
Exam Rooms:
· Properly restrain patients for examination or treatment. Record information in SOAP as expected
· Conduct appointments such as nail trims, weight checks, ear cleaning, suture removal etc
· Accurately admit patients being dropped off
· Administer vaccines as needed
Laboratory, Pharmacy and Diagnostics:
· Collect blood from jugular, cephalic, and femoral veins in an effective and efficient manner
· Collect and run all routine lab samples: CBC, UA, chemistries
· Process ear swabs for mites and cytology
· Track lab samples (in-house and outside services)
· Fill prescriptions as directed by doctors
· Submit samples to appropriate labs
· Check for/Download lab test results
· Know commonly dispensed medications including dosage, use, and side effects, have a basic understanding of veterinary terminology
· Know bloodwork packages and age requirements
Hospitalization and Treatment:
· Read and interpret patient records, reminder section, call backs
· Give injections as prescribed by doctor
· Perform all treatments and accurately notate in record
· Place IV catheters
· Record and input all charges daily
· Prepare discharge instructions
· Properly clean treatment areas after use
Radiology:
· Know and use appropriate safety precautions for x-rays
· Position patient for x-rays, accurately measure patient and use proper settings
· Know how to trouble shoot and contact information for trouble
· Know maintenance of machine
Surgery/Dentistry:
· Know and use appropriate safety precautions for gas anesthesia
· Prepare patients for routine surgeries
· Administer any preanesthetic medications
· Monitor patient during surgery
· Monitor patient post-surgery
· Clean, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments
· Properly administer and record all controlled substances
· Complete pre-anesthetic lab work when needed
Other Responsibilities:
· Adhere to Employee Handbook
· Maintain a professional appearance (neat and clean, as per Handbook)
· Maintain a professional, courteous attitude
· Attend and participate in all required staff meetings
· Answer phones and respond to emails when needed
· Prepare updated estimate of services to reflect doctor’s recommendations for testing, treatment, etc.
· Perform other related duties as directed by the doctors and manager
