Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital is looking for a full-time, part-time, or per diem Licensed Veterinary Technician for our Emergency and Critical Care Department.

About the Job: As an LVT in the Emergency and Critical Care department you will be responsible for:
Triaging incoming patients and managing clients throughout their visit
Partner with DVM’s in patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
Obtaining and processing laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates.
Utilize different modalities of imaging for patient assessment
Executing, monitoring, and recovering all assigned sedation and anesthetic events
Shifts will include a mix of day, night, weekend, and holiday coverage.
About You:
Minimum of 2 year of experience working in a veterinary emergency hospital setting as an LVT required. Recent graduates with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology will be considered
Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to develop and foster long term positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, and the community.
Work well independently and in a team environment where colleagues lead by example and hold themselves accountable for quality medicine and customer service.
Strong computer skills to work with a paperless information system.
Flexible, cooperative, dependable, responsible, and good time-management skills to work in a fast-pace environment that can be highly stressful at times.
