Veterinary Technician jobs in Brentwood, NY

Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.     Qualifications for the Role:
    • You are a Certified Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant, with a minimum of two years in the sport horse industry with stellar horse handling abilities.
    • Flexibility to travel between Long Island, New York and Wellington, Florida based on seasonal demands.
    • Motivated, reliable, and organized individuals passionate about equine athletes.
    • Proficiency in longeing, jogging horses, and adeptness in equine restraint techniques.
    • Stellar communication skills, both within the team and with clients.
    • Physical capability to lift 50 lbs.
    • Valid driver's license, a pristine driving record, and successful background and drug screenings.

    Work Schedule & Location:
    • Full-time and potentially part-time roles available.
    • Weekend and after-hours availability is a must.
    • Seasonal rotations:
      • Long Island, N.Y. (May – October)
      • Florida (late October – April)
    • Work hours range between 40-50 hrs./week, with compensated overtime.
