Vehicle Maintenance Manager assists with the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the organization's fleet of motor vehicles. Assigns vehicles and drivers, prepares schedules, and oversees dispatch operations. Being a Vehicle Maintenance Manager evaluates, purchases, leases, and disposes of vehicles to maintain the fleet. Develops and maintains vendor and service provider relationships for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services. Additionally, Vehicle Maintenance Manager develops and implements safety, preventive maintenance, and accident prevention programs. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and fleet-specific regulations, licensing, registration, and reporting requirements. May administer insurance policy coverage, negotiates agreements, and participate in claim resolution. Manages the fleet expense reporting and budgets. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Vehicle Maintenance Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Vehicle Maintenance Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Requirements:
Education/training program, with a minimum of a GED or high school education program completion, and Master Mechanic or other equivalent certification or licensing required.
Passenger and School Bus Endorsements.
A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a
Vehicle mechanic preferred.
Must have passed a DOT Physical Exam and other physical requirements to perform the duties and responsibilities of a vehicle mechanic.
Must become certified in CPR and First Aid.
Must submit to and pass Drug and Alcohol Testing.
Must pass a background check in accordance with the
Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention
Act, Public Law 101-630.
Demonstrate competency in safe passenger vehicle (bus,
Van, other) operation in all types of weather conditions,
Preventative bus, van and other vehicle maintenance,
Monitoring and enforcement of student bus conduct,
Recordkeeping, and radio communication.
Indian and Veteran’s preference is considered.

School bus drivers are more than just vehicle operators. Students often consider them friends and parents trust them with the safety of their children. Vehicle maintenance to all our transportation buses and vehicles on a regular basis ensures safety is first for the students of Standing Rock Community School.
