Description:
Want a job where you get to travel the country?
We are looking for a driver for a cargo van. No CDL required!
You will be an independent contractor! Get paid to drive around the country! Great day job for a photographer! Or a travel lover!
We are looking for someone who wants to be out on the open road and travel the country!
Get paid to drive around the country delivering loads in a cargo van. You will hardly ever need to help load or unload.
You will need to go straight to the pick up and drop off locations and occasionally update your location (zip code). Stopping for gas, food, rest, etc is permitted as long as the load is delivered on time. You will not have to pay for the gas, but you will have to pay for food and anything you wish to purchase on the road. Overnight stays in hotel/motel/AirBNB are not covered by the owner. You can choose to pay for lodging with your own money. An option to sleep on a bed in the cargo area is available (to save money), as long as there is room (there is typically room).
You will need to strap down the cargo most of the time. Straps are provided. Sometimes you will need to put on a hard hat, steel toe boots, safety vest, etc. This hardly happens. The hard hat and safety vest will be provided. You will need to buy steel toe shoes that fit you.
The owner of the van will find the loads, and you will need to communicate with the owner when necessary. You will take pictures of the loading and unloading of the cargo. You will also take a picture of signed paperwork (BOL), a document provided to you. You will need to send these pictures to the dispatcher before leaving the pick up and drop off locations.
The van will be insured by the owner, but you are responsible to pay the deductible if you get into an accident and are found to be at fault.
The owner is responsible for maintenance to the cargo van.
You will be responsible for down time between loads. You will be free to go somewhere within the city (discussed with the owner) and find an activity to occupy your time until the next load is available. Or, if you have chosen to pay for a hotel/motel/AirBNB, you may go there until the next load is available. Keep in mind, sometimes the loads can come within minutes. Loads may also not be available until the next day or longer.
How long you are on the road and when you are back at home can be discussed with the owner. The more you drive, the more you make! Remember, this is a job for someone who likes to travel.
The cargo van is a 2021 Ram Promaster 3500 with low miles, so mechanical issues should be minimal, if any. But if the van does require emergency roadside assistance or repair, it will be covered by the owner/owner’s insurance.
The van will need to be brought back to the owner on occasion for maintenance (to be discussed).
Qualifications:
No degree necessary.
Must be 21 years old and have been driving (with valid driver license) for at least 5 years.
Must be a US citizen and pass a background check. Must have a valid drivers license.
No DUI.
No criminal records.
Must be fluent in English.
You will need to sign a contract that commits you to taking the loads and driving as much as you are able. This can be a full-time job or a part-time job. The contract will also have stipulations about you, the driver, covering the insurance deductible if you are found at fault, providing receipts for fuel, using the vehicle for the load deliveries only, and other clauses to help keep the business safe and operating.
This job requires a lot of driving and a lot of time away from home. So, only apply if you love traveling and don’t mind being away from home a lot. More details about time away from home can be discussed with the owner.
Benefit:
No medical, dental, vision, etc. You will work as an independent contractor.
Some great perks (if considered perks) are: driving for a living, being on the open road, seeing the great sites of our country, going to new places and doing new things, simple work, and possibilities for good pay.
The minimum wage in Utah is currently $7.25/hour. With this job, you have the potential to make $5,000 a month. Just for driving!
Pay:
The pay will be a percentage of the earnings after fuel. The more you drive, the more you get paid. You will split a percentage of the earnings (after vehicle fuel) with the owner.
Profit/earnings is defined as: pay for the load minus fuel.
An example: If you drive 6,000 miles in a month, and the pay for the loads are $6,000, and gas costs $1,600, then you will split $4,400 with the owner for that month (one load can take anywhere from 1-3 days, depending on the destination). The more you drive, the more you make!
For the first month, you will earn 35% of the profit (probationary level). After each month you have worked, and if the owner feels you are a good fit, the pay will increase. The 2nd month, you will make 45% of the profit. The 3rd month you will make 55% of the profit. From the 4th month on, you will make 60% of the profit. 60% is the maximum percentage split with the owner.
An example: If the profit (pay after fuel) for the 1st month is $6,000, you will be paid $2,100 for that month (35%). From the 4th month on, with a monthly profit of $6,000, you will be paid $3,600. The more you drive, the more you make!
