Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, will operate a district van over designated routes to deliver less than 10 students per route to school sites. May provide transportation to and from designated therapy locations or between schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Drive a district van over designated routes according to established time schedules; may transport students to and from therapy session locations
● Pick up and unload regular and/or special needs students at designated stops or site locations
● Supervise student conduct during transport to assure safe vehicle operation.
● Wash, sweep, polish, refuel and perform safety checks and inspections on vans and vehicles
● Complete and maintain trip records, daily vehicle reports, and vehicle inspection reports
● Review route changes, passenger changes, challenges, safety hazards, or incidents with the supervisor or designee as needed for recommended actions.
● May perform various transportation and/or fleet-related duties including making pickups and/or deliveries and other related duties as assigned
● Perform first aid according to established guidelines and procedures
● Assists in accomplishing campus, department, and District goals
● Maintains regular and punctual attendance to fully meet work responsibilities
● Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
● High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licenses and Certifications:
● Possession of a valid Class C driver's license upon hire, subject to acceptable review
● Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from DMV
● Pass a Commercial DOT medical examination prior to hire (District paid).
● Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test prior to hire (District paid).
● Enroll in an authorized drug testing program and be subject to random drug and alcohol tests
● Enrolled in the CA DMV Pull Notice Program
● Must obtain a valid First Aid/CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency within 30 days of hire (district-paid)
● Obtaining a School Bus Driving Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol is desired, but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Safe and defensive driving practices, and proper operation of school vehicles.
● Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting school children

● Work successfully with students with all types of special needs
● Ensure students are safe and secure in the vehicle, using equipment as required
● Understand and implement the plans for working with the behaviors of individuals and groups of students

● Be able to successfully evacuate all students from the vehicle in case of an emergency
● Maintain order and a positive environment among students in the vehicle.
● Relate to students in a warm and caring manner
● Understand and carry out oral and written instructions given primarily in English
● Work with the public and staff courteously, establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
