  • Role Summary


    The role of the Class A Driver is to transport household goods on behalf of Budd Van Lines. The ultimate goal is providing a superior move experience for our customer. This is including but not limited to packing, loading, and unloading while minimizing any damage and providing a positive customer experience with Budd Van Lines.


    Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities


    • Own and maintain the necessary tools used to disassemble/ reassemble household furniture and fixtures
    • Establish a positive working relationship with each customer
    • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with company standards
    • Discuss and communicate concerns/ requests the transferee may have to your Crew, Coordination and Branch Operations
    • Prepare/ protect and pad and wrap furniture and/ or fixtures inside the residence
    • Carry items (furniture, package cartons, etc.) to and from the residence or van
    • Wrap and pack personal effects and/or household goods
    • Disassemble and/or reassemble furniture and/or fixtures
    • Unpack personal effects and household goods
    • Place articles in a well-organized manner on dresser, counter, tabletops, etc.
    • Oversee Third Party Services to ensure the quality of work meets Budd Van Lines’ standards
    • Pad and wrap furniture and fixtures inside the residence
    • Ensure household goods, personal effects, automobiles, freight, etc. are safely and efficiently loaded and secured for transit
    • Administer & forward all required paperwork (logs) to Branch Operations including requested supplemental information necessary for Accounting or Customer Service Departments
    • Ensure the residence is left in a neat and well-organized fashion at the completion each day
    • Ensure operation of vehicle is performed in compliance with all State and Federal law and Budd Van Lines’ policies and procedures, including appearance and condition. Report problems to Branch Operations.
    • Assist in the professional development and supervision of Co-Drivers, Packers and Helpers. Encourage positive employee performance. Give periodic input to Operations Supervisor.
    • Complete a thorough inventory and communicate with transferee regarding damages, wear, loss, etc.
    • Request all authorization for accessorial services, packing estimate variances, etc. in a timely, complete and accurate manner
    • Maintain necessary contact/communication with Branch Operations, Coordination and transferee
    • Prepare and submit all move-related paperwork in accordance with Budd Van Lines’ policies and procedures in an accurate, timely and complete manner
    • Other tasks as assigned or requested by manager


    Qualifications and Experience


    • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience as an OTR Household Goods operator or one (1) year of employment with BVL as a Regional Van Operator
    • Training/Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Licenses/Credentials: Class (A) Commercial Driver’s License with a clean record/MVR, D.O.T. Medical Examiner Certificate (self-certified by first day of employment )
    • Other: Must be at least 23 years of age.
    • Must be able to travel over extended periods of time
    • Must be able to lift 60 pounds or more
