Performs site preparation tasks, including digging holes or trenches, installing anchors, climbing poles, and using equipment like digger derricks, aerial lifts, pulling and tensioning equipment, forklifts, and dump trucks. Being a UTILITY PERSON installs wire and cable. Follows all safety regulations and procedures. Additionally, UTILITY PERSON work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Apprentice is generally part of a formal or informal on-the-job training program. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid Driver's License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The UTILITY PERSON works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Overview: Under general supervision of the Fleet Supervisor and direction of the Fleet Shop Foreman; the Service Person is an entry-level position at which the employee works in a learning capacity performing a range of work assignments and providing automotive labor support appropriate to the job in accordance with District safety guidelines and policies and procedures. The incumbent typically possesses the knowledge to do the job but lacks professional or recent experience in the field. Work is performed under general supervision and may be required to perform duties as directed by the Fleet Technician, Fleet Regional Technician or the Fleet Shop Foreman.

A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire). A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Washington Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake restriction removed and current medical card within one year of employment.
