UTILITY PERSON constructs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground transmission lines. Performs site preparation tasks, including digging holes or trenches, installing anchors, climbing poles, and using equipment like digger derricks, aerial lifts, pulling and tensioning equipment, forklifts, and dump trucks. Being a UTILITY PERSON installs wire and cable. Follows all safety regulations and procedures. Additionally, UTILITY PERSON work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Apprentice is generally part of a formal or informal on-the-job training program. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid Driver's License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The UTILITY PERSON works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Primary Role
in materials such as concrete, tarvia, chat, gravel, and dirt.
Repair leaks or breaks on mains, air vacuum release valves, service lines; make taps; fill and flush pipe lines, mains, and fire hydrants;
inspect, flow test, paint, and repair fire hydrants, including manual digging and backfilling with hand tools such as shovels, picks, digging
leak locating equipment, portable turbidity and chlorine test kits, etc.
clean storage bins and shelving; uncrate and stock received materials; prepare materials for storage by coating or wrapping or other methods, etc.
