UTILITY PERSON constructs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground transmission lines. Performs site preparation tasks, including digging holes or trenches, installing anchors, climbing poles, and using equipment like digger derricks, aerial lifts, pulling and tensioning equipment, forklifts, and dump trucks. Being a UTILITY PERSON installs wire and cable. Follows all safety regulations and procedures. Additionally, UTILITY PERSON work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Apprentice is generally part of a formal or informal on-the-job training program. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid Driver's License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The UTILITY PERSON works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Hourly Position
Requirements: Must hold a Kentucky Underground Experienced Certification. Must have 1 year of experience working in a underground coal mine, 6 months must be face experience.
Reports to: Shift Foreman
The essential functions of this position were determined to be:
1. Fill in on the production units as needed. This may require running equipment (roof bolter, scoop, shuttle car, or continuous miner), hanging curtains or acting section foreman/lead man.
2. Ability to maintain roadways (water/grade)
3. Ability to build brattices, overcasts, and set up new units and prepare for seal building.
4. Ability to haul supplies and unload as needed.
5. Ability to assist in belt and power moves.
6. Ability to reclaim belt and framing from old panels.
7. Ability to lift 50 to 100 lbs.
8. Proficient operating at least 2 of the following pieces of equipment - Roof Bolter Roof Ranger II, Continuous Miner, Scoop and Shuttle Car.
9. Other tasks under the direction of the shift foreman.
Work Objectives: To complete tasks assigned by the shift foreman safely and proficiently.
Work Schedule: Mine normally operates three (3) shifts per day. Employees will work five (5) days, Monday through Friday. Periodically, miners will be required to work a sixth (6th) day on Saturday. Will rotate shifts between days and afternoons on a bi-weekly basis or be on straight 3rd shift. Normally the first (1st) and second (2nd) shifts are production shifts, and the third (3rd) shift is primarily maintenance.
Production and Performance Standards: Circumstances vary daily, self-paced. Works closely with productions units and must be prepared to move from place to place quickly.
