    Education and Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
    • A minimum of 10 years of experience in any one or combination of the following fields:
    credit analysis, underwriting, lending, credit review, audit or a related field in the banking sector.
    • A professional designation such as Certified Public Accountant, Credit Risk Certification or Certified Financial Analyst is preferred.

    Technical Skill Requirements:

    • Credit Analysis: Proficient in financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and credit risk assessment. Able to make credit decisions based on analysis and align decisions with the bank's credit policy.
    • Underwriting: Understanding of underwriting principles, risks, and mitigations. Should be able to review and make credit recommendations, ensuring that the loan meets underwriting standards.
    • Financial Knowledge: Familiarity with key financial concepts, banking products, and services. Familiar with commercial lending and business banking.
    • Risk Management: Understands and applies risk management strategies in credit decisions, can identify early warning signals in credit portfolios.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledgeable about federal and state (WV, VA, MD, KY, DE) banking regulations, particularly as they pertain to credit risk and lending practices.
    • Proficiency in Financial Software: Competency in using credit analysis software, credit risk systems, Microsoft Excel, and general banking software.

    Management Skill Requirements:

    • Leadership: Ability to manage and direct a team of credit analysts, providing guidance, and ensuring consistent performance.
    • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex credit information to non-technical stakeholders and communicate effectively with clients (internal).
    • Negotiation: Able to work with commercial lenders and borrowers to structure loan agreements that work for both parties. Can negotiate terms effectively while maintaining strong client relationships.
    • Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying problems, generating solutions, and making sound decisions, especially under pressure.
    • Relationship Management: Experience in managing relationships with commercial lenders and borrowers, understanding their needs, and building mutual trust.
    • Project Management: Can handle multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and effective execution.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Direct and Oversee Credit Analysis: Guide the credit analysis team in evaluating creditworthiness of potential clients. This includes, but is not limited to, interpreting financial information such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

    • Underwriting Oversight: Supervise the underwriting process, ensuring that all loans are underwritten accurately and comply with the bank's policies and federal/state regulations.
    • Collaboration: Collaborate with other senior management and stakeholders to align the bank's lending strategies with overall business objectives. Work closely with executive members of the Holding Company Loan Committee (HCLC), commercial lending officers, portfolio managers, credit administration, audit and risk management teams. Attend monthly Board of Director meetings, quarterly ALCO committee meetings, and weekly HCLC meetings.
    • Policy Development: Contribute to the development, implementation, and periodic review of credit policies and guidelines, keeping them aligned with the bank's business strategy and risk appetite.
    • Risk Assessment: Identify and assess credit risks associated with potential lending opportunities. Monitor risk in the bank's commercial lending portfolio and make recommendations to mitigate them.
    • Perform Financial Analysis: Review and/or perform full credit analysis on commercial loan requests up to $100,000,000, with emphasis specifically on the larger more complex requests. Document strengths, weaknesses and make a formal recommendation on each request submitted to Holding Company Loan Sub-Committee, Holding Company Loan Committee, or the Board of Directors for approval. Ensure all underwriting and credit analysis have been thoroughly completed and are compliant with bank's credit policy.
    • Report and Review: Periodically report to Executive Management on the status of the commercial loan portfolio, including credit quality, risk factors, delinquencies, and non-performing loans. Review and assess these reports for signs of risk or areas for improvement.
    • Staff Management: Oversee the recruiting, training, and development of the credit analysis and underwriting team. Evaluate performance, provide feedback, and encourage continuous improvement and professional growth.
    • Professional Relations: Foster strong relationships with commercial lenders, working closely with them to understand their clients’ needs and customize credit solutions that meet their requirements.
    • Regulatory and Audit Compliance: Ensure that all credit decisions, policies, and procedures are compliant with relevant banking regulations and laws. Assist in communicating, coordinating, and preparing responses to various internal audits and regulatory examinations.
    • Market Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes that might impact the bank's commercial lending operations.
    • Mergers & Acquisitions: Complete due diligence on prospect banks and assist with implementation and system conversions.

    Relationships:

    Reports to the EVP, Chief of Credit Administration. Works with Audit (Internal and External), Bank Examiners, Commercial Lenders, Loan Assistants and members of the HCLC. Supervises the Credit Analysis Department.
