Underwriting Assistant provides support and assistance to underwriting staff. Performs administrative duties regarding new and renewal accounts, risk assessments, and loss runs and loss ratings. Being an Underwriting Assistant may assist underwriters with the computation of rates and premiums. Typically requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Underwriting Assistant typically reports to a supervisor. The Underwriting Assistant works under moderate supervision. Role and Responsibilities:
Underwriting assistants work with insurance underwriter, carrying out clerical tasks. The assistant supports the underwriting staff by setting up and processing risks within the underwriting system to ensure information completeness, accuracy and workflow efficiency.
Job Duties
1. Issue quotes, endorsements, and cancellation notices to comply with carrier guidelines while keeping track of status in all necessary systems.
2. In-bound and outbound phone calls with agents, clients and brokers.
3. Respond to submissions, emails, message’s within 24 hours.
4. Assist business individuals and/or teams responsible for preparing binding and legal documents.
5. Maintain updated documentation including client communications, records tracking and specification changes. Control and coordinate the filing of documentation as it relates to policies.
6. Follow up with customers to insure accurate records and ask general questions about written and electronic forms, and procedures.
Educational Requirements:
Education Requirements: 2 yr associates degree or equivalent work experience, desire candidates with servicing background of a year or greater within the P&C industry, including knowledge of personal lines products.
Skill Requirements:
Assistants must have good communication skills and must interact with underwriters on a regular basis. They must be highly detailed-oriented, and must have organizational and time-management skills to maximize production. Demonstrate ability to multi-task, utilizing different web base system.
