Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Reviews appointment schedules and suggests changes necessary to provide maximum use of the available resources (re: equipment and staff) in order to assure the most efficient service to the patients and physicians. Operates and maintains proficiency on all Ultrasound equipment within the department in order to provide quality imaging. Performs patient procedures and provides appropriate scanning techniques and images. Images are labelled with correct name and identification number.
Requirements
Experience Required
Previous hospital experience preferred
Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
Successfully completion of physics boards and abdominal boards through ARDMS
License Requirements
* Candidate must be CPR Certified
* Registered with ARDMS in Abdomen (If not registered at time of hire, abdominal registry must be completed within 6 months of employment)
