Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Position Responsibilities:

    • Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
    • Uses cognitive sonographer skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
    • Perform a variety of complex specialized tasks utilizing ultrasonic high frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and stones. 
    • Assists the radiologist with biopsy procedures, guiding biopsy instrument using sonographic techniques.
    • Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
    • Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
    • Maintain accurate patient records, including patient log books, billing, reporting.
    • Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.
    • Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
    • Thoroughly explains procedure to patients, making them very comfortable and at ease with the test.
    • Prepares the room, the table and the equipment for patient use.
    • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
    • Ensures that reports are readily available to ordering physicians
