Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     As an Ultrasound Technologist you will be responsible for performing ultrasound procedures to aid in accurately diagnosing disease or injury. In this role, your duties will include but are not limited to: 

    • Performing ultrasound examinations on patients in our facility or at bedside. 

    • Assisting our radiologists with invasive procedures. 

    • Utilizing your computer skills for generating reports, billing for procedures, and maintaining patient medical records.

    Responsibilities:

    • Performs diagnostic medical ultrasound procedures. Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedure and patient care. Documents reasons for any variation in procedure. Communicates with referring physician.
    • Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with exams. Compiles exam for reading by radiologist.
    • Critiques exam for film quality and proper identification. Scans all required documentation into the RIS system.
    • Communicates with patients throughout exam. Assists patients. Explains exam to patient or responsible party.
    • Complies with OSHA and hospital infection control policies.
    • Responds to calls on various shifts.
    • Keeps supervisor informed of equipment/safety problems.
    • Identifies, transports, lifts, and positions patients for exams.
    • Performs duties of a radiologic technologist as required and qualified.
    • Recognizes patient levels of psychosocial development and modifies approaches accordingly.
    • Assesses patients for signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect and reports findings to radiologist or staff physician.
    • Follows safe radiation practices in selection of radiographic techniques and protective shielding, to self and patient in radiographic areas.
    • Performs receptionist functions and clerical duties.
    • Controls inventory and purchase of supplies as assigned.
    • Maintains cleanliness of room; stocks supplies.
    • Performs quality assurance duties as assigned.
    • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Required to complete RDMS and RVT registration within one year of appointment to position. Maintains CPR (BLS).
    • Follows hospital/system and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
    • Other duties as assigned


    Education:

    • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology ​


    Certifications:

    • RDMS or registry eligible (Successfully completed RDMS and RVT registration within 18 months of appointment to position).
    • Maintains CPR (BLS).


    Complexity of Work:

    • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.


    Work Experience:

    • One-year experience as an ultrasound technologist preferred.
