Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Martin County Hospital District (MCHD) was organized in 1967 and has boundaries coterminous with Martin County, Texas. It is located in the heart of West Texas. Opened in 1949, the hospital was originally located near downtown Stanton. This facility served the community well for many years, but was replaced with a state of the art 18 bed facility in 2012. The new facility is located on I20, and has been designated as a Critical Access Hospital.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Registered Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing Ultrasound procedures in accordance to physicians' orders, exam protocols and instructions. The technologist is to instruct the patient regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results. They are to follow prescribed safety standards in operating equipment, maintain ultrasound and vascular equipment in appropriate operating condition and maintain examination rooms and work areas keeping all necessary items stocked. The technologist should maintain accurate department records, reports and files as directed. They should also follow HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. As a member of the Radiology care team, the technologist works collaboratively with the other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of care. In addition, the technologist performs a range of technical services in a cross-functional mode to comprehensively serve patient needs as assigned.
