  • George Fox University's Information Technology department is seeking a highly skilled and motivated team player to fill the role of Systems Administrator.


    About the Job:

    The Systems Administrator works closely with the Institutional Technology (IT) team to provide technology infrastructure to help the University meet the needs of students and employees. They will build, secure, and maintain systems through best practices. Through partnering with teams throughout the University, this individual will assist the IT department in aligning institutional resources with the university mission.


    Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Assisting with the management of software installations as well as the design, implementation, securing, and maintenance of servers, storage, networks, firewall, switches, Amazon Web Services, and wireless access points supporting all aspects of university infrastructure. (50%)
    • Providing support and troubleshooting for multiple systems used throughout the university and creating/maintaining technical documentation for university systems. (30%)
    • Researching new and alternative technologies to ensure the department continues to move forward, applying industry best practices and providing appropriate services to the university. (10%)
    • Assisting the security incident response team to respond to threats. (10%)
    • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
    • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
    • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    A day in the life of this position:

    A Systems Administrator will design, manage and monitor servers, firewalls and network hardware. They will also troubleshoot network and security issues along with assisting in the implementation and management of technology security systems on a regular basis.


    We're looking for candidates who have:

    • A Bachelor's degree in a related field.
    • Experience and working knowledge of Linux, Windows, VMware and AWS best practices.
    • Experience provisioning and managing servers, AWS infrastructure, file shares, user accounts and databases.
    • A familiarity with DNS, DHCP, and open source software such as Apache httpd, Tomcat, BIND, and Postfix.
    • An ability to understand various scripting languages including but not limited to Bash, Python, PHP, Java, and Perl.
    • Proven critical thinking skills and the ability to use logic to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
    • The ability to communicate effectively with employees, students, and other community members both orally and in writing.
    • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

    Job information:

    • Hours Per Week: 40 hours (1.0 FTE) - Monday through Friday
    • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus
    • Working Conditions: Physical requirements are those of a normal office environment.
