Overview We are currently seeking a
UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator III that will be a critical member of a U.S.-based global systems integrator providing technology solutions and services for commercial and government clients. This is a full-time permanent role supporting our program in Raleigh, NC.
This position requires flexibility in job duties stemming from occasional after-hours work as well as the mission environment created at the customer site. Must understand and enjoy providing support to a fast-paced operational enterprise.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work as a team member of an enterprise support team, providing on-site and remote support for Red Hat Linux servers and workstations at multiple locations.
- Install new/rebuild existing Red Hat servers and workstations.
- Configure server and workstation hardware, peripherals, services, SAN storage and local storage, perform backups and restoration in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
- Write bash and Ansible scripts to automate system administration and maintenance tasks.
- Install vendor software and scientific open-source packages.
- Apply Red Hat and other software patches/updates.
- Write and review IT policies and procedures for both use and security.
- Responsible for evaluating new hardware and software needs along with associated costs.
- Create and maintain computer system network topography diagrams.
- Work with management to ensure compliance with security protocols.
- Maintain documentation on the operations and configurations.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
- Perform a variety of systems engineering tasks and activities that are broad in nature and involve major systems design, integration, and implementation, including personnel, hardware, software, budgetary, and support facilities and/or equipment.
- Provide support for UNIX/Linux workstations and servers connected on the private LAN.
- Provide quality assurance review and the evaluation of new and existing software products.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications- Expert level knowledge of RedHat Linux operating systems RHEL7 / RHEL8 / RHEL9.
- Fluent with RedHat Satellite and Unix encryption (ex. WinMagic SecureDoc).
- Skilled with automation tools - Ansible and bash scripting.
- Understanding of AD authentication (ex. Centrify).
- Understanding of networking (DNS, IPv6) and tools (ex. EM7).
- Understanding of Security management and related tools (ex. Nessus, Splunk).
- Supporting a very complex and dynamic Unix environment for multiple customer groups.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to effectively troubleshoot technical issues.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including, but not limited to, procedures and technical topics.
- Communicates with staff or clients to understand specific system requirements.
- Delegates and oversees technical implementation tasks of more junior team members to ensure work is delivered on time and on budget.
- Contribute as project lead for key enterprise projects (assigned by the Unix Team Lead) and assisting the team with the RHEL7 to RHEL8 migration.
- Can successfully mentor and motivate technical resources to provide a positive and productive team environment.
- Provide estimates, timelines, and schedules on assigned work efforts.
- Provide technical guidance and/or support for the development or troubleshooting of systems.
- A can-do attitude is critical, detail-oriented, strong work ethic and a team player.
- Knowledge of SAMBA, Kerberos, AD, Veritas NetBackup, Nagios, ESXi VMWare.
- Experience with writing bash and Perl scripts, Ansible playbooks to automate administration tasks.
- Experience utilizing DOD Security Technical Implementation Guides STIG highly desired. Previous experience performing vulnerability scanning and remediation techniques preferred.
- Experience working on RHEL9 DISA / STIG deployment scripts.
Desired Skills- 5 years of experience as a system administrator of UNIX / Red Hat Linux operating systems Release 7/8/9.
- SAN storage configuration experience with LVM on the Linux servers.
Physical Demand- Must be able to lift 40lbs, move equipment, rack and un-rack host/servers and network hardware.
Education / Certifications- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems preferred or equivalent relevant experience
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator - a plus
- ITIL version 3 a plus
Work Authorization- Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
