Tumor Registrar identifies, registers, and maintains records of all cancer patients using tumor registry systems and software. Prepares abstracts and performs coding of clinical patient data related to cancer. Being a Tumor Registrar performs data analysis and provides reports used by researchers, physicians, institutions, and patients. Adheres to all coding and privacy policies, guidelines, and regulations. Additionally, Tumor Registrar may require an associate degree or equivalent. Requires Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential. May require Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tumor Registrar works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Summary

    The DSNH Registrar maintains museum databases utilizing PastPerfect Museum Software and monitors objects from the DSNH collections in storage and on display. The Registrar is part of a Collections team that oversees and is responsible for the management, security, preservation, and collection of artifacts and specimens contained in the collection. The Registrar’s primary location is the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, but will also work at SunWatch Village. The Registrar is required to work a regular schedule of Sunday through Thursday and may be asked to flex time to work on a Friday or Saturday for special events.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

    • Maintains the DSNH collections catalog supported by PastPerfect, including cataloging new objects, updating records, and tracking incoming/outgoing loans.
    • Maintains the PastPerfect online catalog.
    • Tracks all collection objects on exhibition; tracks all collection objects undergoing conservation treatments or reconstructions.
    • Creates custom storage solutions for collection objects.
    • Creates inventories and finding aids for the collections.
    • Creates hard copies and digital backups of the collections catalog.
    • Monitors collection storage and exhibition spaces for agents of deterioration, including light levels, temperature, humidity, pollution, pests, and mold.
    • Maintain cleanliness and order in collections work areas and vaults as well as the DSNH reference library and the DSNH institutional archives.
    • Serves on the DSNH collections committee to review new objects coming into the collection as well as policies and procedures.
    • Conducts specimen identifications for the general public.
    • Delivers collections-based programming in both formal and informal educational settings, including special events and behind-the-scenes tours.
    • Proposes and executes grant opportunities.
    • Assists the curator with exhibition content development.
    • Required to manage collection interns and volunteers.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Manages Collections-based interns and volunteers.

    Education and/or Experience

    Master’s Degree in Museum Studies, Public History, or related field is required with at least 2 years of experience preferred. The individual is required to have experience working with PastPerfect Software. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in Natural History collections.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

    Work Environment

    Work is performed in a fast-paced office setting with frequent interruptions. Duties may require sitting for long periods of time. Occasional need to drive a vehicle to other work locations.
