    About this job:

    This leadership  position is responsible for  maintaining compliance with federal and state laws related to a state chartered fiduciary department including; policies and procedures, regulatory reporting, audit and exam preparation and oversight, expertise in current trust law and compliance standards.   In addition, this position oversees all  risk assessment and fiduciary account processes for individuals, corporations, not-for-profits, 401k and external vendors.

    As a Sr. Trust & Compliance Officer you will:

    • Develops, initiates, educates staff, maintains and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.
    • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future. 
    • Interpret existing and new regulatory laws relating to fiduciary activities/transactions.  Advise the board of directors, senior management of emerging compliance issues.
    • Oversee, report and respond to all  audits and exams.
    • Coordinate  with external Department of Finance/ FDIC examiner to provide all pre-audit/exam requests and  on-site exam liaison.
    • Design, implement and monitor all Reg 9 regulatory reviews.   Review and report on Reg 9 reviews completed by departmental staff.  This includes identifying exceptions to policies and procedures, lack of documentation to justify non-guidance or asset concentrations, in compliance with regulatory regulations (CIP, OFAC, Know Your Customer).
    • Insure reviews are completed for all accounts, identify, resolve or document all exceptions.  Reg 9 investment reviews for managed accounts.  Ensures all required customer documentation is complete and transactions are processed correctly and in a timely manner in accordance with regulatory standards and the department’s policies. 
    •  Oversee  and evaluate relationships with third part service providers that impact the department.
    • Review of daily transaction reports and monthly disbursement report.

    Retirement Plan Expert:

    • Maintain current and extensive knowledge of the rules and regulation that govern retirement plans, trouble shoot and monitor  internal plan administration, and interpret features  in order for the plan to maintain a qualified status.
    • Work with existing and prospective 401k plan sponsors regarding the design and administration of a retirement plan including eligibility, employer funding , investment options, enrollment,  distribution options, beneficiary designations.
    • Act as a liaison between the plan sponsor and the recordkeeping vendor to resolve or explain processing procedures for various types of transactions.
    • Develop excellent working relationships with recordkeeping vendors and  plan sponsors.
    • Oversee relationship management duties, plan sponsor and participant communication strategies, and relationship expansion.

    Building and Developing Relationships:

    • Coordinate  Wealth Management review process; 13 wealth management strategies, inclusion of other bank divisions.
    • Maximizes cross-sell opportunities by developing/conducting/attending  meetings within other areas of the bank, at current client locations to inform employees or prospective clients of the services provided by the IRP department.
    • Decision-making, sales and negotiating skills are required to guide sensitive or difficult situations through to agreement.
    • Participates in  on-going departmental activities in order to build referral network.

    Qualifications for Success:

    • Bachelor Degree in finance, business, management
    • Cannon Financial Institution Inc – Certified Fiduciary & Investment Risk Specialist
    • Cannon Financial Institution Inc – Certified Retirement Plan Specialist (or similar designation)
    • 10 years of fiduciary compliance and risk management
    • Computer literacy and Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office suites of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
