    GENERAL SUMMARY

    Under minimal supervision of the Chief Financial Officer and according to Financial Administrative Support Services’ (FASS) general policies and procedures, the Assistant Controller supports large and complex nonprofit back-office accounting clients as provided by FASS's back-office accounting services. The position requires no supervision and possesses all the appropriate skills to support any back-office accounting client. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform complete month-end and year-end accounting close process for multiple nonprofit clients.
    • Prepare client financial statements including Statements of Activities, Financial Position and Cash Flows, and dashboards along with complete financial reporting package as tailored for each client.
    • Apply advanced principles of accounting and financial analysis to maintain the general accounting systems
    •  Maintain balance sheet schedules 
    • Provide payroll and billing / grant billing functions
    • Develop budgets, financial and variance analysis 
    • Perform monthly reconciliations for bank and investment accounts and all other balance sheet general ledger accounts.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries, as required.
    • Prepare advanced grant related billings to State, County, City, Federal agencies with all supporting documentation to be filed with the billing invoice in accordance with Federal OMB A-133 requirements.
    • Give financial presentations and training to Executive Directors, Program managers and/or supervisors, as well as outside auditors and other client related staff members.
    • Process checks, stop payments and voids, when needed.
    • Prepare full-cycle payroll for one or more non-profit organizations and maintain payroll system as necessary for changes in employee earnings and deductions.
    • Develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, make or buy decisions and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization affected.
    • Provide excellent customer service to clients and respond to client inquiries timely.
    • Process accounting information in accordance with internal control processes.
    • Supervises professional and technical personnel in the performance of such duties as processing payroll, fixed assets, accounts payable, miscellaneous billing, general ledger functions and reconciliations, grant reporting, bank reconciliations and other financial functions
    • Review and approve the journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements prepared by other FASS staff
    • Participate in preparing new client back office accounting proposals and on-boarding new accounting clients
    • Configure accounting software and set up new clients
    • Evaluate existing procedures and makes recommendations for reducing time and cost of operations
    • Follow FASS policies, procedures, and internal controls, including the protection and confidentiality of client data.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

    • Bachelor degree in Accounting or closely related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
    • Five Years of general ledger accounting

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

    • Accounting degree
    • Nonprofit accounting experience

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY

    • Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, preferably those that apply to nonprofit organizations.
    • Advanced proficiency in of Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to set up, configure, and efficiently and effectively utilize accounting software.
    • Ability to effectively give financial presentations and training to Executive Directors, Program managers and/or supervisors, as well as outside auditors and other client related staff members 
    • Acts as resource person in the resolution of complex accounting problems; takes lead in dealing with auditors and outside agencies
    • Advanced analytical skills required to assist in the development and maintenance of the accounting and finance related tasks.
    • Advanced knowledge of general ledger accounting, budgeting and financial analysis techniques.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of information systems including automated accounting, budgeting and financial systems and spreadsheet applications.
    • Knowledge of federal/state regulations, accounting principles, FASB, internal controls, statistical theories, cost management techniques, non-profit accounting rules and regulations.
    • Excellent organization skills and ability to complete tasks by deadlines.
    • Utmost attention to accuracy and detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information and exhibit a high level of professional integrity, meet professional standards and exercise good judgment at all times.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages and economic backgrounds in a culturally competent and sensitive manner.
    • Demonstrated advanced skill in Microsoft Suite and Google products.
    • Ability to efficiently and effectively utilize accounting software.
    • Self-motivated and demonstrated critical thinking skill.
    • Demonstrated strong teamwork and people skills, with ability to develop productive relationships
    • Ability to model and communicate the mission of FASS and support a culture of empowerment and team support.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

    Reports to the Director of Outsourced Accounting

     Pay Range: $68,000/yr- $84,000/yr
