Truck Driver - Heavy operates a large or heavy truck that transports cargo to and from specified locations on time and according to schedule. Operates vehicle safely and responsibly, adhering to all DOT and company safety regulations. Being a Truck Driver - Heavy conducts routine inspections prior to departure to ensure the vehicle is in optimal condition. Manages appropriate cargo documentation and provides necessary paperwork upon the delivery of goods. Additionally, Truck Driver - Heavy coordinates the loading and unloading of the truck, verifying cargo and ensuring items are properly stored and secured. Maintains contact with dispatcher to provide status updates, clarify special instructions, and notify about delays or issues during transport. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. May require a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Typically reports to a supervisor. The Truck Driver - Heavy works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. TREE TRIMMER-HEAVY TRUCK DRIVER (BC-07) [4 vacancies]

  • Performs skilled work in trimming, pruning, planting, transplanting, spraying and caring for shade and ornamental trees and shrubs; operates a heavy truck and other mechanized equipment; and performs other related duties as required.

    There are four vacancies with the Department of Parks and Recreation, Division of Urban Forestry.  This position is required to respond to emergency work which includes working in storms, working under or near fallen trees, exposure to traffic under poor visibility conditions, securing area of electric lines felled by trees, and off-road conditions during work hours and after hours (nights, weekends and holidays).

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
    Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care and maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas, including the trimming, pruning and care of trees and shrubs, and some truck driving.

    Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of proper tree trimming techniques and practices; common tree diseases and infestations; the use of appropriate insecticides, fungicides and fertilizers; and demonstrated the ability to climb trees with or without spikes; diagnose and treat conditions harmful to trees; and operate heavy trucks.
     
    LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
    The following license and certificates are required for the job at the time indicated.

    At the time of application:
    1. Valid commercial driver's license with proper endorsements (The current vacancy requires a CDL Class B or higher).
    2. Current State Department of Transportation medical examination certificate.
    3. Current Certified Arborist or Tree Worker (International Society of Arboriculture) certificate.

    Verification Requirement:  You must submit a copy of your valid CDL Class B or higher, current DOT medical examination certificate, and current Certified Arborist or Tree Worker (ISA) certificate to verify you meet the requirement.     Prior to Appointment:
    4. Current Certificate of Fitness for Crane and Hoist Operator.
